Journaling:
My dad was raised on a farm, a place of adventure for my sisters and myself. One day when we were still quite small, my parents left the three of us on the farm for my grandma to babysit. What fun we had!
That spring the creek that ran through the farm was high, overflowing its banks so the nearby grass was covered with a couple inches of water. The frogs loved the wet environment. They were everywhere! We three ran around the creek catching as many frogs as we could.
When my parents came back, we excitedly brought them to the bathroom. The tub was literally hopping with frogs! My dad estimated there were about 50 frogs either in the bathtub or jumping out of it.
My mom scolded my grandma, saying that she should get the frogs out of the house. Grandma said, “Let the girls play.” This mother of six boys added, “They had fun, and they didn’t hurt themselves.” I guess Grandma thought that was the most important thing.
NOTE: As a mother of six adventurous boys on a farm, sometimes Grandma's boys (my father and his brothers) had had fun but DID hurt themselves! My dad told us a few stories about that.
