Project Life Week 23, 2019
journaling:
What a week. After placing mom in Hospice Care last weekend we were all on edge, and just waiting for what we though was the inevitable. Her sister went home on Monday, unable to stay longer, her daughter also had to fly back home on Sunday. I spent hours on Monday afternoon just sitting with her and holding her hand while she slept.
Tuesday morning at 7 am I got what I thought was The Call. Indeed, it was her nurse but apparently mom was wide awake, eating breakfast and demanding to know (and I quote) “Who the *** signed me up for Hospice???” By the time I could get myself cleaned up and over there, she had finished her breakfast and was on her second cup of coffee. She declared she was starving, which I explained was because she had been asleep for four days. She didn’t remember her sister being there, and once we talked more she did recall the decisions she helped us make last week.
False alarm? Not really, the same health issues are there. One last rally? No one knows, but it’s not her time yet. Time will tell.
A couple days later one of the aides did her nails, she was so sweet!
Wednesday night was our last choir rehearsal for the summer, and we ended by playing some silly games and having refreshments. Lots of fun!
