Text: Hard to believe that January is half over already. We are continuing our walks and finding new places to roam. We have expanded our usual walk along the Clackamas River to include going across the river to Gladstone where there is a shorter trail along the river. January 6 was a very sad day for the U.S. My heart was breaking to watch TV. A mob was incited by the President and some of his friends to attack the Capital and overthrow the government. I never thought I would ever see such a sight reminiscent of coups in third world counties. Fortunately it was not successful. The virus is getting much worse and more people are dying. Kenny's brother-in-law Harry died Christmas day from Covid. He got sick Christmas Eve day, went to the hospital and died the next morning. He lived in Arkansas. Two of his sons are also positive. Don't know how sick they are. A cousin in Pennsylvania, along with his wife, and two sons are all positive. Fortunately not very ill. We have been seeing a bald eagle fairly frequently along the Cove. Always sits on the same tree top so believe it is the same bird. Also spotted several cormorants. Managed to get a photo of a squirrel with a mouthful of leaves. We had three inches of rain in 48 hours and the rivers really rose up over their banks, but were not at flood stage where we are. The Clackamas rose at least 6 feet and the Willamette about 5 feet. Levels went down almost as fast as they rose. We went to a new trail along the Willamette River in Canby. All the plants in the yard think it is Spring! Everything is starting to come up. Our day times have been so warm they are completely confused. We have had a juvenile Red Tail Hawk hanging around the bird feeder. Had a lumber freight train derail and turn over a bunch of cars. Created quite a mess. It certainly has been an eventful two weeks, hasn't it? It's good you are chronicling everything and I love the photos you've added to illustrate your days. Pretty background and title, too!

Your page is so pretty with your beautiful photos of your walking routes.   It's nice to have that peacefulness in the middle of such awfulness;  these times certainly are trying.   I couldn't believe this morning that you said the river was down 5 feet, so amazingly it was pretty high.  Here too, in NJ there is green around, even though we go below 32º each night and days are only in the 40's; so strange.   Your eagle and photo is awesome, that's exciting.  I really like your background and title, too.
