Journaling reads: One of the mansions we decided to visit was The Breakers, the largest. It was over-the-top luxurious and fascinating to us to see how the very wealthy spent their summers. The Breakers was the Newport summer home of Cornelius Vanderbilt II. It was designed by Richard Morris, built in an Italian Renaissance style and constructed between 1893 and 1894. The 70-room mansion has a gross area of 125,339 square feet with 62,482 square feet of living area on five floors.
