Journaling: My husband’s mother Stella was 4 years old when she emigrated from Greece to the U.S. with her mother and 2-year-old sister. In around 1970, she returned to her small home village of Tseria with her husband, also of Greek heritage. Tseria is situated high on a mountain overlooking the Mediterranean, and at that time there was no road leading to the village, only a footpath. A cousin living in the village brought a donkey to meet them and she rode the donkey up the mountain as she “hung on for dear life”. They were greeted by her other relatives in the village, who seemed be upset, with some even crying. They thought Stella had come back to take the olive grove from her cousins since she was first in line to inherit. Once Stella reassured them that they were just there to visit, her relatives relaxed and they all had a wonderful time together.
