A Book from Aunt Ann

Journaling: This book was given to my mother, when she was very young, by her father’s favorite sister, Aunt Annie, when mom’s life seemed to be flying apart. It was depression era, her father was dying of tuberculosis, while her mother teaching school to keep an income coming in. It was a frightening, bewildering time for mom and Aunt Annie tried to keep her busy and occupied. She signed the book “Aunt Ann” but mother, wanting all to know who it belonged to, wrote “To Marjorie” in cursive (she could read and write at age 4.) She never showed this book to us until we were adults, probably fearing we would destroy it. It was well worn and much loved. When mom moved to a retirement community in 2013, she told me the story and gave the book to me. I cherish it.

Oh Betty, your story brought tears to my eyes, it's so special and touching and you told it so well.   I love how you showed us a photo of your Mom as a little one and of the book too.   Your layout is wonderful, thanks for sharing.

What a wonderful heritage page. Really enjoyed reading the story. Your pictures of the book are precious. Like the lace. Will have to remember and do that on one of my pages. Your mom's hair cut looks like my Mother's when she was 3-4, also depression era.
