Building a Beautiful Life

My dad had more projects and hobbies than the house and property, but it is what I've been thinking about most lately. Thanks for looking!

Dads Tools Collection Biggie by Sekada Designs

Journaling:
Dad spent his life building things, he was always working on a project. My mother designed the  house, and it took seven years of hard work (by the whole family) before we were able to move into it. Dad spent the rest of his life improving the property- pouring the concrete for the driveway one hexagon at a time, building a beautiful fish pond with a fountain, planting a tropical garden, adding and then expanding a machine shop, building rock walls with sandstone rocks collected from the property and excavating pathways, all while still working as a welding, concrete and masonry inspector.

Wow- that's quite a list of accomplishments. Great tribute to your Dad. Love your page design. Thanks for participating in the challenge.

Oh April, this is awesome and I am in awe reading about your Dad.   I saw this layout tiny in the NL and was anxious to see it closer, it's such a beautiful memory page.  It's amazing to see all your Dad created and I can see you come by your creativity easily from both parents!  Your photos are fabulous, it's wonderful seeing him at work with so many projects and to see the house, too.  He looks like he was a kind man and this is such a special page.  I was sad thinking of the house your Dad lost, was it this one?

The main house was built with a steel frame and lathing. The only wood in the house was the cabinets, furniture and carved beams on the front porch. It and the detached garage survived the fire. His huge machine shop, the guest house and a few other outbuildings burned.

Thanks, April - I remember how awful that was then.

This is a wonderful tribute to your Dad and all the hard work he put into the home. These are lovely and precious photos and a lovely page as well. I like the double framing with just a hint of wood in the background.
I remember, too, how awful it was when the fire occurred. It's good that some things survived.
