This picture of Bob so captures the spirit of the American childhood. The freedom that children enjoy to run free, to climb, to seek adventure in even the everyday objects around them. I don’t know what he was dreaming of on this day, but the whole world was open to him. More than any other place on earth an American child can dream big dreams. For all its faults this country is still the land of opportunity and the land of dreams. There’s a song by Phil Vassar that puts it best - “living the life that I love, and when I count my blessings I thank God I was an American child ‘cause dreams can grow wild born inside an American child.
