Journaling:

January 14, 2006 ~ This morning we took Raven over to a sheep farm in Fowlerville. I wanted to see how she would do on herding. I was a bit worried as I watched a year old border collie go into the pasture and be scolded many times for “biting” the sheep. It was clear that he was in “prey” mode. Raven was only 8 months old and I was not sure how she would handle this. When it was her turn she pranced into the pasture. She totally ignored the group of 3 ewes and instead ran to the far side of the pasture sniffing along the fence line from corner post to corner post. I thought she was looking for an escape out of there, but she continued along the perimeter. Then it dawned on me what she was doing, she was checking out her boundaries before zeroing in on the sheep. I held my breath as she ran toward the three huddled in one corner and without so much as a nip of the heel she brought they right to the shepherd! As she delivered her charges one veered off, but herders like groupings so the chase ensued until she brought them all under control beside the shepherd.

This is such a cool layout and a wonderful story! It reminds me of a story on Sesame Street about a "working dog," herding sheep...that has a terrific song with it. I could hear that and just imagine how exciting this time was! It is a pleasure to be able to share that experience through your layout.
