VJ and Gramps

Mom is wanting me to do a layout using this photo of my Aunt Vaughnde Jean and my gramps. She chose the frame in this layout. I've gotten this far and I need some advice on embellishments :)

I've used so far:

ABR Day2Day Life Brown Diamond

ABR Day2Day Life Alphas

KSC Breathe Swirls Rose recolored with Beige Overlay

LCO Edging Brushes 3 Brush 5

Viking Normal Apostrophe (Daddy's)

SF Colorful Memories Card Frame 2

PSPxi

FYI: I plan to make another layout for mom to choose between the two.

Grampa was a carpenter hence the browns and I love the Alpha here.....

No Journaling. Mom doesn't want any and she doesn't know when this photo was taken. Grandma is gone now too late to ask and so is Gramps. He died in 1980 of complications in his lungs connected with the asbestos in the Libby Mines only we didn't know it then.

Vaughnde, I think you've got a great start here. What type of person is your aunt? What types of things does she like to do? What types of things did they like to do together? Are there any embellishments that you could pick along those types of lines? You have the browns and the rustic type of frame to represent your Grandfather (that alpha is really cute!). If you wanted you might be able to put a piece of mesh or screen type of material behind the frame (would again go with the carpenter theme). It would be nice to get something in the layout that also represented your Aunt.

Hope that helps at least a little!

How about a journal tag of some sort? A little more of this story would be interesting....and valuable to future generations. And you could try using brads or tacks to attach it to the frame. And have you thought about using just a dash of red somewhere to pick up the color in Aunt VJ's dress? Great start...can't wait to see the finished version.

It's lovely, picking out the red on the dress would be great. some kind of tag would be good inthe right hand bottom corner, doesn't have to be a long commentary on it, just the names of the people in the photo or a stamp of some kind, maybe one from the county they're from ? something pictoral about them rather than words if the tag is a no, no. what did they share together ?

I agree with the other two posts. I think you have a great start. Use the color in their clothes when choosing embellishments. Flowers and leaves are always a good stand-by if you don't have anything carpentry oriented. Looking forward to the finished product.

Vaughnde, I see you have the Day to Day Life collection. There is an awesome red flower in that set that just about matches her dress. You could stick it on the corner of the frame. another thought is to get another paper possibly red and make a narrow border to run behind your picture, just to break up the brown. I am like the others, I'd like to see something that says something about her too since it plays up the carpenter part for him.
