A personal note :

My FIL had these floor to cieling Leaded Stainded Glass windows made for the Landing in our home. It has the "Baile" crest in them. They added the "y" to the end of the name to separate themselves from the Billingtons and The Binghams after they arrived here with the Mayflower. Apparently my DH's ancestors attempted mutiny and were returned to England and promptly hanged !!

My son had the Shield and the Sword made up from researching our history. The Bailey crest in on the Shield which is Scottish and the Dempster Crest is on the sword.

We have very colorful ancestors !! I have tried to raise my children so they know where they came from. They have been well schooled in my heritage and their Father's, all this has helped them cultivate their own personality and traits and remaining true to who they are ! So, Y most definitely is for "YOURSELF" !!!! :D

Cool idea for an ATC - love the idea of being Yourself. It's a good reminder to me to teach our children about our heritage - thanks for the reminder, and I love the family crest!
