Being a Mom

Name of layout: Being a Mom

Software used: Photoshop CS2

Name of challenge: Mother's Day

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:

Sometimes when developing an idea for a layout, indecision sets in ... what do I want to use to convey my message? With so many great elements at my disposal, it's difficult to choose just a few. This is when I end up with a layout like this one. Lots of elements invariably leads to lots of layering. So what do you do in a case where you want one element to overlap another in one area, but be hidden in another area? One example of this (on this layout) is the legs of the little birdy element (from Angie Briggs' Little Birdy Collection), and how it interacts with the string and tie element (Angie's "Fit to Be Tied" Embellishments). There is a really neat trick that doesn't require duplicating anything. The first step is to select the layer of the element you will be modifying (in this case, the bird). With that layer active, CTRL-Click the layer icon of the element that will be "interacting" with it (in this case the bow) – you will know this is accomplished when you see "marching ants" around that element. Then – using your eraser tool – erase the areas you want "hidden." By having the bow element highlighted, your eraser tool will only work within the confines of the marching ants. This way you don't have to worry about erasing too much! Easy!

Journaling reads: "This is one tough job! I never 'got into it' thinking otherwise, but ... WOW! I try not to place too much pressure on myself, but the truth of the matter is that this is a huge responsibility! But it's moments like this one when I know for sure that I wouldn't have it any other way!"

Great LO - I love all the layering. I like the thick stitching around the edge too and that you overlapped it with elements as well. Great text on the note book, really looks like you doodled right on it!
