I couldn't decide which of these events was more magical for me (this trumpet lesson of my son's, or my daughter's band concert) so I decided to upload them both. :-)
My son is particularly exciting for me because he has such a good ear and therefore he can pick up an instrument for the first time and make a reasonable sound out of it, generally even finding a familiar tune! The trumpet was no different and I feel like I'm on pins and needles of anticipation waiting to hear him perform for the first time! Band concerts will be amazing now with two kids to listen to, and I can't wait to hear Matthew give the bugle calls at his first parade! Yesterday he mentioned being nervous about it because he'd be the only one playing, but I told him to just think about his mother sitting in the stands listening with great pride. Absolutely nothing about parenthood has given me this much of a thrill as seeing the music my husband and I inhereited from our parents show itself in our children! As a homeschooler, the band experience was something I thought we would have to give up, but God provided an amazing opportunity that I will forever be grateful for. So magical - yes, listening to them play is magical to me, and this first lesson on the trumpet shows the anticipation of magical things to come! Wow, I can't even find the words to express how hearing them makes me feel!
Supplies:
papers - ABR Commotion; Ro Gold Music; Ro Staff Paper
paper template - KSC Expressive Pages
styles - MRE SS Tools Paper Tear; CBA 14K; DEB Worn Corduroy
frames, staples - TCS Naturescape
forte sticker - Ro Musica
sixteenth note - ASO Appassionata (recoloured)
alphas - MJO Childhood Memories
tag - AMC Fruit Smoothie
fonts - Fredfont; Go Long; Girls are Weird (My son loved that I used that font! LOL!)
Journalling:
Matthew enjoys playing the guitar and the piano, and he’s looking forward to adding the trumpet to his musical repertoire. He was thrilled to be offered the position of bugler for the cadet squadron he’ll be joining in the fall, and was very excited when we brought home the trumpet on loan from the cadet band. Anxious to begin learning the bugle calls, he got his dad, my trumpet player, to give him his first lesson that very night!
