Journaling:
We are a little out of the
norm when it comes to getting
a Christmas tree. Because
our property had very little
trees on it, we decided to
dig up our Christmas trees
rather than cut them down.
For many Christmases in a
row Tom, the boys and I
would visit a local nursery
and select the "perfect" tree.
It was usually under 4 feet.
Tom would carefully dig
around the tree, slip burlap
underneath, wrap and tie it.
When we got home with our
balled tree we would set it
in an old washtub where it
sat on our deck with only
lights until Christmas Eve
day when it was brought in and we would
decorate it. The day after Christmas we would undecorate it
and the four of us would take it out to the hole Tom had
waiting for it, and there it would be planted. Some say that
it was not a long time to keep a decorated tree up, but now
our yard is decorated with Christmas trees past, and every
view is a memory cherished.
