Draguignan American Cemetery and Memorial

On our way to Nice by bus we stopped at this beautiful American Cemetery. 861 American Military soldiers are buried here (their families were given the option of having them buried here or returned to the states). These soldiers died in a little known landing in Southern France on August 19, 1944. After walking around and listening to a short talk by the caretakers of the cemetery, one French and one American, we went into the chapel for a short ceremony, and two WWII vets who were in our group laid a wreath on the alter. We finished by singing the Star Spangled Banner. It was a beautiful and interesting visit.
