learning to use paper templates

I'm playing with today's freebie, ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Scrubbed Raw Special. This is my first time following the directions that come with paper templates and I'm struggling with applying it to a pre-made paper.

I used BHA_AbstExpr_12x12_MulticolorSwirl from the Abstract Expressionism Paper Biggie. One of the last steps in the instructions says to adjust the brightness and contrast until the paper looks as it did originally, but I couldn't get it to reach that point. Why does it have so much grey? It looks dull too; not bright and beautiful anymore.

I always have trouble with multiple sliders. I could spend ten minutes sliding them back and forth alternately and still not find a good combination. I want more of the color of the paper. Please advise.

p.s. What does interlaced mean? When I save a PNG it asks whether I want that. I've just been leaving it at the default.

You did a great job!! I understand completely about the sliders! What software are you using?

Did you change the blend mode and create the adjustment layer? There were a lot of steps to follow....

I used PSE 5 and followed the directions, and the only real difference between my result and yours is that I didn't get the dark edges like you did. When I did it, I increased both the brightness and the contrast on the adjustment layer...the brightness to about 53 and the the contrast to 14.

The great thing about digital is that you can keep playing and moving things around until they suit your taste.

Post again if you still don't get the look you want. There's always help available!!
