I hadn’t realized how much I missed going with Mom to the cemeteries around Memorial Day until about two years ago. This year we finally had the opportunity to go with her to retrieve the flowers she leaves on all our ancestor’s gravestones. Michael and William of course were oblivious to any meaning behind our serene walk. Christopher, however, embraced this “remembering holiday” (as opposed to the kind where you receive presents) and said to mom we should also remember people like George Washington and Jesus in addition to our ancestors. After I told him about looking for the particularly old stones as a child, he then wanted to look for them with me.
