learning layer masks -- Caroline

This layout is using what I learned from one of the university tutorials, Rejunevenate Task #13. http://www.scrapgirls.com/tutorial_creatin...op_elements.htm

I used the first half of the tutorial to learn how to do a layer mask with the gradient tool. (The second half of the tutorial wasn't actually about layer masks I don't think, although admittedly I've struggled to understand the concept.) It took me days to struggle through the tutorial and I still don't understand it. But I don't want to drag this on any longer and get further behind, so I'm going to just complete a layout the best I can. I'll keep working on the layer mask skill. Is there a class?

Helpful suggestions welcome! Could I have erased the word (part of the paper template) going across her face? I was so focused on following the tutorial and took about 50 attempts just to get the gradient to look good enough so I was too tired to try it. And I flattened the gradient and adjustment layer and template like the tutorial suggested so I can't go back and fix it now.

You have worked so hard with this!!! And it looks like it has all paid off. Yes I probably would have erased the writing across the face but don't worry about it now. I put many things down to experience. You have done so many lovely things in this already just enjoy you new handiwork. :disappearing-smilie:

I love all the differnt lettering for November. Oh, how many times I've done like you and merged or flattened and then wanted to go back and fix with no options but to start over. I'm getting better at creating duplicate layers to make adjustments. You made good use of your embellie specials and love all the pink.

OH, I love all the pink you used and your photos are just so sweet. I love the November repeated across your page and the ricrac is fun too. The nice thing about digiscrapping is you can go back and redo it later if you want because it is digital. The letters across her face are probably something I would have erased too, like Ngaire said, but you are learning so don't worry, sometimes when something doesn't work for me, I go back to it in a couple of weeks after I've done different things and all of a sudden it just clicks. Try it again later. I think your whole layout concept really works. :D

Great job with this....I too tried and tried and could not figure it out. I love the colors you used and wording you used as the mask. Very nice!

I am so glad you didn't let the software get you down - sometimes it is really hard to figure out something new. This is just lovely - I hope now that you have had some space you can see how good it is
