Journal Block Text and Notes

 

Woodburn” means “streamlet in a shady glen”.

WVU built its own first building in 1870

and named it University Hall.

The Orginal Woodburn Hall burnt down in tbe 1873.

Center portion of Second Woodburn Hall is completed in 1876.

It opened in 1878 and became University Building.

University Hall 1870 was named Preparatory Hall in 1878.

The Seth Thomas clock is purchased for $500

and installed in the

University/Prepartory Hall/Martin Hall Tower.

In 1889 the Building was named Martin Hall.

North Wing of Woodburn Hall is completed 1900

Building is renamed Woodburn Hall1 1902

Construction of the South Wing of Wooburn Hall is completed.

Clock is moved from Martin Hall Tower to the new

East Tower of Woodburn Hall in 1910.

Chitwood Hall Science Hall orginally was finished in 1893

and Completed Woodburn Circle.

 

NOTES

Wooburn Circle is the most Historic part of WVU Campus

since it has the oldest building on campus.

WVU is located in Morgantown WV.

My dd went to WVU for College.

Love all the info in your journaling about Historic Woodburn - must be an awesome place to see - and go to school too!
