Courageous Sweet Marie
This is about my DH's Aunt Marie - Journaling Reads:
What a prickly package it must have been to be a woman in the 40ís and 50ís, a time when women were ruled by stereotypes and unwritten standards of how women were to behave and live. I marvel at Aunt Marie and the independent life & choices she made, often at the dismay of her family.
Marie never married, living instead with her sister Beatrice. She supported herself by working her entire career on an Air Force Base, the most masculine of environments.
These are not out of the ordinary by todayís standards but are quite out of the ordinary in the context of the 1940ís and 1950ís standards. What a brave, bold and independant woman she must have been!
