. For the first time in my life, I'm without my faithful friend and companion, my dog. I cried when I had to say, "So long, Bruiser, I'll see you soon," but it was even harder when we learned, after both Mike and I being in Massachusetts for more than two weeks our dogs in Oregon were beginning to feel abandoned. Even though we had people coming there daily to look after them it wasn't enough. They figured out how to open the gates and roam the hill looking for human companionship. Bruiser went straight to my friend Rae's house. On occasion we would stop and visit Rae on our walks and so Bruiser found his way to a place of love and security. For all he knew his person was gone forever.
All three dogs - Bruiser, Big Guy, and Bailey - leapt for joy when Mike returned to Oregon and won't leave his side when he comes home from work in the evenings. Mike gives me regular updates on Bruiser's days while they keep walking the hill to keep in shape until he can join me in Massachusetts for our daily walks up Golden Hill Rd and to the local post office.
