Terms of Use
Before we get started with the rules and regulations, let us say one very important thing: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
If you remember this statement, you'll know everything there is to know about how to get along here at Scrap Girls. We work hard to make a safe place for our members. Our members care about each other, pray for each other, and do good things for each other because they are good people.
As Ro's grandma used to say, "Be kind. Be kind." Our members are kind people. If you come to Scrap Girls with kind intentions, you will be happy here.
Okay, onto the business at hand: Please take a moment to review the rules detailed below because our members are expected to follow them. As is true for any polite society, order exists when there is order.
Please remember that Scrap Girls is not responsible for any messages posted. We do not vouch for or warrant the accuracy, completeness or usefulness of any message, and are not responsible for the contents of any message.
The messages express the views of the author of the message, not necessarily the views of Scrap Girls. Any user who feels that a posted message is objectionable is encouraged to contact us immediately by email. We have the ability to remove objectionable messages and we will make every effort to do so, within a reasonable time frame, if we determine that removal is necessary.
You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this bulletin board to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violates any law. (Rule of thumb: Everything should be "Ro Blush-Proof". Ro is the Founder of Scrap Girls and is very conservative. Remember that and you'll be fine.)
Furthermore, you agree to not use the messageboard or gallery to attempt to raise money for business, personal, or charitable efforts. (Scrap Girls has chosen to adopt the charity, Food for the Poor. If you wish to participate in this case, you may purchase any of the products identified in the Boutique as a Food for the Poor item. All of the funds received are sent to Food for the Poor.)
You agree not to post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or by Scrap Girls, Inc.
You agree not to use Scrap Girls as a means to post alarmist type of messages (the type that are sent around via email chains) or messages meant to move people towards political action or negative actions towards individuals, groups of people or companies. It is appropriate to share information from valid sources (such as PC Magazine) that will protect our computers.
You agree not to attempt to deceive and mislead our members (via multiple user names or through any other means available to you). If it is discovered that you have done so, you will immediately be banned from our Scrap Girls Message Board, Blog, Chat Rooms, and Gallery. We can make an exception to this rule for team members who have a real need - like to run a game or like Ro who needs them for testing purposes (I have to see what members can see when doing upgrades.)
You agree to allow the Scrap Girls team to manage issues with members. If you feel that a member has done something wrong (say, for instance, that their signature is incorrect), instead of contacting the individual yourself, you agree that you will contact a Scrap Girls team member and allow them to handle the matter. Your cooperation in this regard is truly appreciated because we try very hard to keep a positive environment on our website. This tiny thing can make a huge difference for us all.
About Member Moderation
We have learned that it is best for us to contact a member to fix a Terms of Use violation immediately upon its discovery because usually, a member simply didn't realize that they weren't doing it the correct way. We have learned that if we try to make sure that everyone follows the TOU, then there is less chance that anyone's feelings will be hurt by the perception that someone is receiving "unfair" treatment in regards to the TOU. And so, if you are contacted by a moderator about something, please know that no one is upset at you. Should an issue with a member occur, the actions will include: counseling, moderated status with no PMs and chats or banning. We are just trying to help you have a great experience with us!
Scrap Girls reserves the right to discipline members when their behavior requires extensive time to moderate. (It becomes costly for the company to spend too much time moderating members. It is also disruptive to our other members when any given individual continually breaks the rules or causes disharmony.)
Methods of discipline may include removal of various access and participation rights up to and including removal of all ability to access the Scrap Girls forum
Please remember: Scrap Girls is a business. If we don't sell our products, we won't be here to maintain the forum, keep up our gallery, send out our awesome newsletter to you six times a week (and a once a week Round Up), give you regular freebies, have fun chats, teach free classes, and more. If you try to move our visitors and customers away from us in any fashion, you are hurting our business. This is why we have to say this is not allowed. Most people have instinctively understood that it isn't nice to "crash someone else's party and steal their party guests", but some people have difficulty with this basic concept. Working with the second group of "party crashers" forced us to develop very specific language for our Terms of Use. (Note: This document seems to be a living breathing thing. It gets tighter only because "party crashers" get more inventive and we have to respond with additional rules that addresses the inventiveness.)
That said, you agree that when you are posting layouts in the gallery or messages on the bulletin board, that you will be sensitive to the fact that Scrap Girls is a company that is trying to keep itself (and our families) afloat by selling our wares in the Boutique. It is right and acceptable to include the kit and designer name, please do not include a competing website or online store name. We want you to give credit where credit is due. It is fine to talk about the neat things you have found other places. Information is great!
However, it isn't a great idea to come onto the board/blog/chat room/gallery and attempt to move people away from Scrap Girls to another site on the Internet. Therefore, by using the Scrap Girls Messageboard, Gallery, Blog, or Chat Rooms, you agree not to use them as marketing tools to sell or recommend competitive products via posts, layouts, chats, or private messages. Competitive product includes: Any products, tutorials, or online classes that Scrap Girls sells, offers, or gives away to our customers (or might potentially sell, offer or give away because it fits with our product set).
The following activities are prohibited in the Scrap Girls Messageboard, Private Messaging System, Blog, Chat Room, or Galleries. The terms apply to your posts, your profile, and your signature.
1. Do not hotlink or provide web addresses for websites, online stores or blogs in which any competitive product or information is distributed. This includes supply lists in gallery posts and metadata. You may indicate who created the item. You may not give the web address or hotlink to the item that is not an item from the Scrap Girls Boutique.
2. Do not use the Scrap Girls Messageboard, Blog, Chat Room or Gallery to display products which you are currently selling or hope to sell in the future.
3. Do not use the Scrap Girls Messageboard, Blog, Chat Room or Gallery to market any products or services not associated with the Scrap Girls Company.
4. Do not post marketing templates, product samples, or incomplete layouts (that could be construed as product samples for Easy Pages, etc.) not associated with official Scrap Girls classes, crops, or chats. If items of these types are discovered, they will be removed.
5. Do not give links to files located on sharing resources of any kind.
6. Do not use any kind of marketing language in forum, blog, chat room or gallery posts, including metadata. Marketing language examples: (This is not an inclusive list and should not be construed as such. Any language meant to persuade or entice someone to go look, view, download, use or buy something that is competitive to what Scrap Girls offers can be considered to be marketing language).

About Signatures Guidelines
Scrap Girls has grown and we have more members join us from all over the world. As a result, we need to keep in mind not everyone has a high speed internet connection. The more images we have in our signatures and the bigger they are, the longer each message board thread takes to load. Multiply each thread by hundreds of posts with images and slower connections may not be able to read the thread at all. This is why we have had to put some limitations on what is and what is not allowed in a signature.
1. Blinkies. (Please, do not hotlink or give the address for locations where competitive products are distributed) Blinkies for competitive websites, online stores or creative teams are NOT allowed. Size limitation: 150x150 pixels.
2. Personal Blog Links (Please, do not hotlink or give the address for blogs that distribute competitive products.) It is fine if you share your PERSONAL blog even if it has links to your favorite blogs or websites that have competitive products. We hope you add us to your favorites list!
3. Personal website links. It is fine if you share your PERSONAL (not commercial or competitive) website even if it has links to your favorite blogs or websites that have competitive products. We hope you add us to your favorites list on your website!
4. Custom signatures. Size limitation: 225 x 225 pixels. If created with digital scrapbooking items, they should be hosted in the Scrap Girls signature gallery with the appropriate credits given.
5. All images in signatures should be arranged in no more than 3 lines in a post (including blinkies, signatures, and tickers). Let them fall naturally. (Do not code them to fall left, right, or center.)
6. All signatures are limited in the number of images permitted so that the board can load faster.
If you receive a private message from a Scrap Girls team member asking you to edit your signature, please let us know if you have any questions and edit them as quickly as possible. We appreciate your help so very much because we like to keep everybody happy here. When we have to moderate signatures and posts, we get worried that your feelings might be hurt and that is the last thing we want to happen! So if you help out and remember the Terms of Use, we can all relax and just have fun together!
If Your Internet Connection is Slow or Viewing Via Cell Phone (such as a Blackberry)
If your Internet Connection is too slow to allow you to enjoy reading the messageboard, you may find that the answer for you is to disable the images and blinkies in people's signatures. To do this go to My Controls>Board Settings. Under Board Display Settings, change the option for "Do you wish to view members signatures when reading topics?" to "No". Hit the "Change my Account Options" button to save.
Other options to consider that might speed up your experience would include:
• Disable the ability to view images in posts (such as smilies)
• Disable the ability to view avatars
About Gallery Posts Limits
Please be considerate of all of our members and do not upload too many layouts in a row or too many images on the same day. It makes it difficult for people to share their layouts and to see layouts by all of our members when any given member is uploading too much, too quickly. Members may upload whole albums at once to our special album gallery. Thanks for your cooperation. If you upload too many at once, a moderator may contact you and advise you about what will work better.
About User Names
User names may not include .com, .net, .org, @ or any other website extension. User names that might be considered hurtful, profane, obscene or anything like it, will be changed. Business & Website names are not allowed.
About Private Communications with Other Members
Our message board is equipped with a private messaging system. Should you desire or need to communicate privately with another member or moderator, please use the PM system to do so. (You can access the PM system through the drop-down menu up in the top right-hand corner of the board.)
The advantages of using the PM system is that you can put a block on members that you do not wish to exchange messages with and you can easily provide our moderators with copies of problematic private messages. This will allow our moderators to determine if a member requires discipline for the message that has caused concern. (Potential discipline methods include warnings, removal of the ability to send private messages, or total banning from the website.)
We encourage you not to exchange private email addresses with other members. If you exchange private email addresses, do so with the understanding that Scrap Girls can not and will not discipline a member for their off-site communications or behavior.
General Advice for our Members
Again, we're going to say that the best advice we can offer is, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." As Ro's grandma used to say, "Be kind. Be kind."
We thank those of you who are supportive of us. It means a lot to us. It actually means more than you could possibly know.
