  1. Your challenge today is to use the same photo multiple times on your layout.  You can use more than one photo, but one photo must be used more than once.  I can't wait to see your creative layouts!
    Ideas:
*Use the same photo in color and black and white (or other photo treatment)
*Use a photo in the background as well as the main photo
*Highlight different aspects of the same photo by creatively cropping or framing

Post your layouts in the Weekly Newsletter Challenge Gallery and post a link back in this thread.

  2. Please remember:  It is easiest for me if you use your name or user name + the Recipe name (SodScrap_YummyFood) as the file name on your recipe. (I may change it to make it easier for me to track if you don't.)

This may seem silly, but it helps me a TON if your user name is first!  Thank you!!  :)

  3. Happy August!!  This month's theme is Momma's Favorites!!  Any family recipe that has been handed down or is an "always must have" at family gatherings will do!

To participate in the Recipe Swap, please email your 4"x6" high resolution (300 dpi saved a high quality - (1200 x 1800 pixel) Recipe Card to sg.sodscrap@gmail.com by MIDNIGHT, Monday August 31, 2020.
    • PLEASE REMEMBER THIS: It is easiest for me if you use your name or user name + the Recipe name (SodScrap_YummyFood) as the file name on your recipe. (I may change it to make it easier for me to track if you don't.)
    • You are welcome to submit more than one recipe. Please do!
    • Please post your recipe in the Recipe Card Gallery and post a link in this thread.
    • After I have compiled the recipes, you will receive a link to download the recipe cards from all our participants. You must send in a card to get the link!  Please remember the link is active for 7 days.

    New for 2020:
First, each month you participate you will receive a gift certificate to the design shop!  The first month you participate (January) you will receive $1, the second month (February) $2 and so on.  If you miss the third month (March) and participate in the fourth month (April) you would receive $3 and so on.

Second, we will have a challenge each quarter.  Do you try recipes you receive in the swap in your kitchen at home?  At the end of each quarter, you will be challenged to create a layout including a recipe from the swap that you have tried. It can’t be your recipe and card!!  Each person who does a layout will be in a drawing for a $5 gift certificate.

But wait, there is more!!  Everyone that participates EVERY month and EACH quarter challenge will be in a drawing for a $15 gift certificate at the end of the year.

  4. Ladies, I'm out of town with less than reliable internet!!  I will not be able to send out recipes until Sunday night or possibly Monday.  If you see this and have another recipe to submit, I will take those cards!  Also, I will give you a little extra time to get your quarterly layouts done and submitted if you would like.  In the meantime, I will post the August swap so you can get started on that.

Did you all hear that scream?  I worked all afternoon on a page and was really pleased with it.  I had saved up to the last touches, clicked to save the final and somewhere between the old and new it all got erased....poof!  Out in virtual no-where land!  I at least have a supply list so recreating it won't be as hard as the original.  GRRRRRRR.....

Oh no!!!  Sorry this happened, Ann.

Here is my layered page I used 49 layers including the photos. I made a companion page with only 11 layers. On our last day at the marina were lucky enough to be on the marina tug as the MayflowerII was towed down the Mysic River. A day I will never forget.

I should have counted my embellishments and text layers as well!

I thought you explained it perfectly and with the graphics it was even better.
I am a big-time layer user and often have so many it’s hard to keep track.   A few tips I have are that when I have multiple layers, I will rename some of them to find things easier - especially the little items which are hard to see.
I’ll also lock pieces that go together so when I move them they all move at once.
And, very often when scrapping I will use a layer and not like it, or duplicate one in case I make a mistake on the original, or even try a few different layers to see what I prefer.   I end up turning off the eye on the ones I don’t want - and then end up with a large amount of unseen layers.  Jody showed me once that if I go to my layers panel (I’m in PSE 13) and click the down arrow on the 3 little lines - there will be a “delete hidden layers” option which gets rid of all those layers I don’t want to keep in one swoop.   It’s usually one of the last things I do on a page and saves a lot of time and effort.

Awesome tips, Marilyn!  THANK YOU!  I have a script that I use to delete layers, but this seems even easier!!  I never really thought of renaming layers, that's brilliant!!

  8. Layers, layers, layers.  We all use them on each and every layout.  Today's challenge is to create a layout using "lots of layers".  Layers can be used to create embellishment clusters or to create interesting backgrounds with layered paper templates.  You can stack papers for the background, or add layers of papers under your framed photo(s).  Create a collage paper.  Really, the number of layers and possibilities are endless!  I'd love to hear any tips or tricks you have when using layers.  Let's see how many layers we can use breaking out of our "typical" scrapping design and try something new.

Please post you layout in the Weekend Wildcard Gallery and post a link back here to share.  ALSO-please tell us how you used layers.

Here are some blog links to help you out:

Here are some examples of layered layouts (click to go to product):
I love the layered background in Angie's template set:

These templates from Ginny have lots of layers:

The paper strips under these photos in these sample layouts here are stunning! (I'm not going to lie-I wish these were layout templates...lol!!)

Love this challenge!  I probably need to do this at least once a week!

Here is my layout, using two kits:

    Kit: http://store.scrapgirls.com/Red-White-Blue-Collection-Biggie.html

Right!  I chose the easy way out picking this month's club, I know I have supplies I have had a while that need to be used.
