We saw lots of floats from nearby towns decked in green, carrying their elected royalty and ambassadors. Everyone was wearing green for St. Patrick’s Day, including the dogs and the lady in the bathtub!

During that time our 3 boys have grown from teenagers in high school and college to young career men with wives and children. Since the grandkids arrived, we have taken a yearly photo of them lakeside, seated in the Adirondack chairs. In the 2023 photo shown above, Talita was 3 months old and in the hospital with a severe congenital heart defect, so she was represented by her photo and T-shirt. She had a heart transplant in December, 2023, and is doing great, so we hope she can join the crew this summer in 2024. Because the numbers of kids and adults were almost even, my daughters-in-law held the shower at an indoor play place. It was a unique venue! All who attended really enjoyed the experience, especially the young and the young at heart.

The cold of the winter brings the fun of playing in the snow: making snowmen, throwing snowballs, creating snow angels, skiing, snow shoeing, sledding, etc. But I don’t think 18-month-old Emma was thinking about all the delightful things she could do with this snow. It was waist deep for her!

Born with a severe heart defect, doctors determined she needed a heart transplant. Finally, on December 2, 8-month-old Talita received a new heart. Now at Christmastime she has moved from the ICU to a regular hospital floor, and is taking small steps in a positive direction. We are enjoying her one day at a time. (12/25/23) UPDATE: In the first week of January, 5 weeks after her heart transplant, 9-month-old Talita finally went HOME!! Her dad said it’s a lot more work, but now they feel more like a family.

For me, Christmas is here when the first of four candles is lit on an Advent wreath.
