I just got those too! Here's my first LO with it: Becky 10th grade

What I did, was copy all of the pieces to my new layout, in the order you see them in the folder. Then I copied papers to the solid black or gray pieces, using Ctrl-G to clip them to the shape and then Ctrl-E to merge the paper to the template piece. Once I was happy with that, I linked those layers so I wouldn't "bump" them around while I completed my layout (I flipped the whole thing horizontally with one click that way).

I also made sure to match the drop shadows on the rest of the layout with the drop shadow in the folds.

I know that's a very simplified explanation, someone else may be able to better say it...

Hi Gail!

Fancy folds are pretty straight foward. You didn't mention which set you got, but I think they are about the same.

Mainly you need to pick out a few papers...one for the background, (what you see BEHIND the fold), one for the paper you are scrapping on, and then another for the BACKSIDE of that paper. You could, if you wanted, just make your own paper too, by simply filling the shape with color. Either will work.

If you choose to use papers, then just cutting and pasting your shapes will work best...then just move the shadows and gradient into place over the shapes. Be sure to put the shadows BELOW the shapes and the gradients ABOVE the shapes.

Sometimes with embellishment templates, I find it best that after I download a product, I make my own .psd file or .pse file by draggina all the .png files into one file. Start with the background, then add the layers in order by holding down the shift key and dragging each layer over to the background. Now you have a complete file in .pse format. This you can save for your own reference and when you are ready to use it, open it, drag your papers over, and do the cutting and pasting (or cntrl-alt-g) to get your shapes cut out of the papers.

Have I confused you more? Just let me know!

Theresa, that is a brilliant idea! Instead of re-assembling the layers each time!

Thanks to eveyone for all your advice! I'm still trying to figure this out and it's coming to me slowly! I purchased the TKA_SS_EmbTmp_FancyFolds2.

So the folder labeled '0' - I don't do anything with that one, right?

Then 'BG' is the background paper; "Base" is the one I'm scrapping on.

And, I should work on each layer in order - correct?

I'm getting there!!

Thanks again!

Gail

Hi Gail,
I just got the same ones and asked Theresa for help too. I played with them last night and did a LO on them. I pulled each one onto my blank LO one at a time ( so I wouldn't get confused this first time). I opened up all of the pieces at the same time and had them down in my browser thing across the bottom of PSE4. I pulled up the first piece, put the paper I wanted to use on top of it and did a clipping mask, followed by merging down. I followed suit for each piece except I didn't do the clipping mask for the shadow parts. I was really happy with the finished product. Have fun playing with them!

I'm trying to move the pieces of one of the Fancy Folds 2 onto one document to save as a psd document as recommended here. However, I'm having troubles moving the very light gray pieces (I believe they are the shadows). What's the trick to moving the pieces that are almost transparent? I use PSE5.

Mindy...instead of trying to pick up the OBJECT, go to the layer menu of that object and drag the layer thumbnail over to the document you are working on!

By the way, I'm working on instructions to this product. I should have it ready by tomorrow!

In PSE4, you cant move things that are transparent (like shadows or pieces of vellum by holding down the control key and then clicking and dragging it. Don't know if it's the same in PSE5. HTH!

Ah, that worked! Thanks!

I put the template together & now can't seem to get the paper onto the certain layer that I want it to go on. I clicked that layer in the layers palette & drag the paper onto the template, but it keeps going onto a different layer. Think I need to wait for the tutorial tomorrow!

Argghhh - I am still struggling with this! It's just not sinking in. This might be asking too much, but I'm going to try attaching my .psd file if someone could please look at it and tell me what I'm doing wrong? I'd appreciate it SOO much! I love the effect, but just can't seem to get it to work right. Again, I'm using PSE 4.0.

Are the instructions available yet? Where can I find them?

Thanks so much,

Struggling,

Gail

Scrapbook Katelin.psd

(Is this file cannot be opened from here, is there a way to attach a .psd file?)
