Hi everyone!
I'm fairly new to digital scrapbooking, but not to Photoshop. I used to be a web designer and used PS as my main design software, so this digital scrapbooking is a great way to use those skills for fun--and gosh is it FUN!!!! I love this! (And, my hubby is so glad that I'm phasing out of the paper scrapping and cleaning out my craft room!) :2468who-do-we-appreciate:

Anyway, here's my question...I am creating a scrapbook I want to share with my mom and sister. They both have their own scrapbooking software, but not PSE. I have PSE 5.0. When I go to save my page as a .png, it flattens the page. I love to layer, and I'd like for them to be able to layer their photos under some of the elements on the page.

So, what is the best format to save my layouts when I share them- the format that will keep the layers separate for them to play with? Does that make sense?

Thanks!

If you want to retain the layers, you'll have to save it as a PSD (Photoshop) file type. That is the only way that I know of to retain your layers in Photoshop. If they have photoshop, they should be able to open the PSD file.

Welcome to ScrapGirls! Pngs don't have layers. If you wanted to, I guess you could have each layer seperatly as a png and they could layer it themselves in their program, or, they could just get PSE (that's really what I would recomend)-you can download a free 30 day trial from Adobe's website.

Sorry that I'm not much help-maybe someone else will have a better idea.

.tif files maintain layers, but I don't know how other programs import them, and .tif files get huge. Try doing a save as a TIFF file, and see if they can open in whatever program they have and maintain the layers.

But, just remember, if you are using Scrap Girls products, you would need the commercial license for this sort of sharing. I don't know if you are, but thought that was worth mentioning in case you were (and there is always someone else who is wondering too!).
