Backing Up Your Files

Recommended Posts

At the end of every month, I try to back up all my SG files that I've collected.

Now I have a question. When you back up your files, do you back up only the zipped original download files? Or do you back up the unzipped files?

I guess it's probably just personal preference, but I'm wondering if there's a reason you do one or the other. Right now, I've been backing up only the zipped original downloads onto CDs.

I back up both. Now that I have everything organized the way I like it, I hate the thought of having to unzip and organize everything again. Now that would sure be better than having everything lost, but still. I back up to a ex hd and then once a month on DVDs.

Everything is still in the right folder on the DVD. I just drag the folders to copy to the disk, (we use Roxio) and I write on the disk what is on it. (Write small) The External Hard drive is just like your regular drive. I just copied my whole scrapbook folder onto it, and then use a matching program (winmatch) to update the files.

Okay, that was confusing. I keep all the same information in all three places. Actually four or five. There is that drive in the safe deposit box. :)

I write the DVD's when I get a bunch of new stuff. Usually after a sale. :) I date the CD's so I know where to start the next one and sort the files by date before I copy them. Hope that made more sense.

I hope I don't need to use them. Would hate to have that many drives crash at the same time.

April, how many gigs do your DVDs hold?

(I need to backup my EHD, but my collection of antique images is 64 gigs, and that doesn't include any LOs or Scrap Girls collections. Maybe an extra EHD is the solution, but a bit expensive for me right now.)
