I'm new to digital scrapbooking. After completing a digital layout, is it best to print on photo paper or simply on cardstock?

I do my layouts in 8x10 and take it to a photo development place and have it printed like any other 8x10 digital photo, but I seem to be the only person that works that way.

I print on white 12x12 cardstock (I got a Canon i9900 printer for my birthday). The printout doesn't look glossy like it can with glossy photo paper, but that "problem" is solved when I insert the cardstock into a sheet protector.

I've only gotten a few printed (I've only been doing this since Jan/Feb so I really am a newbie too!) but i used an online processor who does professional prints for photographers. I'm overjoyed with the results!!! They look TERRIFIC printed!

I just print copies on good quality color laser paper. I mostly do them for screen, don't print them all out. But, if I ever wanted to, I would print to my Epson Photoprinter on matte photo paper. Love the texture and silky feel (without the shine). Cardstock gives a cool texture too!

Hi! I use both cardstock and photo paper...It depends on the LO as to what quality of printout that I want and what I am going to do with the LO.

I always print them to the developer and let them print them out! Sometimes I print them out myself on glossy photopaper. It never crossed my mind you could print it on cardstock? How do you pics show if you do that?

I never print them out myself. It eats print cartridges, and the quality is never as when it comes from a photostore. Or lab.
I make mine on 8 inch (8 on 8) and take them in on a CD to have them printed out on real photopaper. Usually mat.
They come out so nice, and it is cheaper in ink and paper then printing them at home...
I would also worry about lasting time if you print them on a home printer (even if it is a photoprinter).
I do have an epson 1290, A3, but still prefer to take them in...

Hello, everyone!

I'm a newbie also, and have made one digital scrapbook so far. I think photo paper is definitely the way to go over cardstock or regular injet paper. From my experience, there is no comparison, but why don't you try printing the same picture on both and see which you like better? I bought Office Depot Premium High Gloss (just a personal preference over matte) Photo Paper for my digital scrapbooking, but use a lighter weight, less expensive glossy injet paper for other projects (CD case inserts, etc.). Having different options to choose from lets you get a nice look without always using your "good" paper.

New to digiscrapping myself. I plan to do photo paper and size them either 6x6 or 8x8. Do they make 12x12 photo paper? I figured I would use card stock to do that size if I needed to.

Sure appreciate learning everyone's preferences! Helps over trial and error. You've heard the saying learning from other people's mistakes... :disappearing-smilie:

Epson makes a 12x12 scrapbook semi gloss photo paper for printing, I've seen it in Best Buy. It was 20 pages for about $20, says it can be printed on both sides. I have yet to be lucky enough to receive a wide format printer (though there is much hinting in my household of the benefits of one!) so I have not used it. Only made note of it's availability for later!!!
