Hi all,

Quick question! I'm using PSE5 and I've been going to "File"/"Place" to pick up pictures, layouts, templates or any kind of elements I have saved on my EHD. It seems to work fine, but I wonder if this is the proper way to do it?

Thanks for your feedback,

Ginny

Ginny, all you have to do is drag them from where ever they are and drop them into the PSE window. The object will be shown at full size in the window. Then minimize it and it will go to the photobin at the bottom of the page. Then when you want it for a layout, drag it up from the photobin and onto your document. Do you know how to create a new document so that you don't accidentally use your original items?

Actually I don't. I'm just starting to learn about PSE5 -- it's slow going.

Thanks for your input,
Ginny

Hi Ginny. Just go to File>New>Blank File and it will give you a dialogue box with some spaces to fill in. You can set the size you want the layout to be. Most of us work at 12x12. You'll want the DPI to be 300, the color mode RGB and usually the background as transparent. Then all you have to do is go to File>Open and open each of the things that you want to use in your layout. You can minimize them so the only show in the photo bin at the bottom of the screen. All you have to do is drag them from there onto your new file and arrange as desired. You can use the layer palette on the right to rearrange the stacking order of things if you want something in front of or behind something else. You can just click on the layer you want to move and drag it up or down to a new place. HTH.
