Time for a new forum, eh? 21 pages is getting hard to navigate through.

How are we all doing? It is the start of another week.

There are 7 weeks of summer left, at least until school starts. Goals need to be made and kept. I want to hear from you! If you are undecided, lets just do something realistic. 1 lb a week...that would be 7 lbs by Labor Day. I'll get on the scale after my shower today and let you know where I stand.

I'm on the treadmill, thinking of getting one of those ab exercisers thats like a chair. They are pretty cheap on Amazon, and I have a GC. I really need to get rid of my flab. Still carrying that "twin skin". So, I'm on a mission...

How about the rest of you?

Theresa

Hi Y'All!

Would it be okay for a newbie to join in on this topic? I need some motivation to get back on track--instead of spending all my time in front of the computer!

My goal, which admittedly sounds sortof piddly, is to lose 15 pounds by the end of the year. I don't have baby weight to get rid of. I have the even more dreaded Over 40 Weight. It sneaked up over the course of about 3 years, so I figure if I lose it in 6 months, I should be fine. (Losing it would have the extra benefit of allowing me to buy a whole new wardrobe since I recently got rid of all my small clothes.)

So far, here's what I've been doing in July: swimming laps for 30 minutes twice a week while DS is taking swimming lessons and TRYING to put in an exercise DVD twice a week as well. Yesterday I did one of the TurboJam toning ones and today---well, let's just say I'm sore. DH and I intended to get in a 45 minute walk each morning--but it's just too blasted hot, even at 6:30, and I don't want to wake up at 6:30!

I'm tired of having my dad tease me about how wide my butt has gotten . . .

I actually made some exercise progress this weekend- have to have some good workout vibes come my way... I have a college reunion of sorts this weekend. Need to have a good week to feel a little better about myself!

I need to not have my DD tell the "truth" about my big stomach!- so hard to explain that it's not nice to say when it is the truth!!!

Oh good, a new thread for this!

It's Monday, and I missed my workout today. I had to run into town early today to the bank and then the store. And then I signed up Josh and Mikaelynn for swimming lessons. $5 for Josh, $15 for Mikaelynn, and they each get 3 weeks of lessons M-F. Not bad, huh?

But it's 9:30am every day, and that's usually my workout time. So I have revamp my schedule now to make sure I still get it in. It may mean giving up some of my early morning SG routine to work out before the kids are awake. It'll be hard to do...that's for sure.

Monday's are weigh-in days for me, and I forgot to do that this morning as well. I think I need a good kick in the butt to make sure I stay on track...any volunteers?

A pound a week sounds good! That's what I'm averaging now anyway. I went and got a ticker as a constant reminder of what my goal is. It's a temporary goal, though. I'll need to more when I get there, but it would be awesome to even reach THIS goal. At least I feel like I'm on my way now. Eating better, working out when I can, but being more active anyway. I'm getting my bike cleaned up again this afternoon and I'll see if my knees will cooperate with my dream. :)

Nice to see everyone making progress!

Welcome! You sound a bit like me. Fifteen pounds isn't piddly. It's progress. I have the dreaded Over 40 Weight as well. Mine hit hard. I wasn't ready for it. And it doesn't want to leave all that quickly (well, my lack of willpower might have something to do with that).

I'm sorry that your dad teases you. That would really hurt me. Hope you can use that to motivate you at least. You can always come here and we'll cheer you on!

I'm ready to re-commit! A pound a week would be great. I haven't been successful so far but I'm going to try harder!

Paige, you are most welcome here. EVERYBODY is welcome. A support systems is always good when you are trying to improve your health.

Now, I'm going to have to go work extra hard on the exercise bike today for the cinnamon bagel I had for breakfast. :) :dancing_penguin:

Welcome Paige! I totally know how you feel! My Dad likes to tease me too - especially when I was pregnant. I used to let it get to me but then I asked him when his baby was due. He looks more pregnant than I did. He didn't really bug me about it after that. I don't know why he picks on me ... I'm the skinniest person in our family and I always have been. Maybe he's jealous?

So I lost 10 pounds last month. I think my goal will be around the 10 pounds per month range. I lost 50 pounds in 5 months after dd was born so that should work for me. since ds was born 2 months ago I've actally lost 34 pounds. Nursing is great for weight loss! At least for me. I gained 70 pounds with this pregnancy so I've still got a ways to go.

I didn't get on the eliptical last week at all. I really need to get back to doing that. If I can stay away from the pizza that always sabotages me then I should be in good shape.

Thanks for the welcome, everyone. I appreciate it.

Zaz, in my family, if you don't grow a thick skin--you don't survive. When I was a teenager, my dad's nickname for me was WT (short for whale tail)--so I've had years to get used to him and my brother.

And I understand the feeling about being the smallest in the family and still getting teased. My best weight is about 115 (my goal), but when I get really stressed---like when I went through a divorce---I drop weight like crazy. When DH and I met, I was down to 92 pounds. NOT HEALTHY. And then I got teased about being too skinny and needing to go eat some Crisco!

BTW, I'm 5'3" with a small frame, so although my current weight looks healthy on paper, on me there's too much jiggling goin' on.

Well I certainly need to join you girls in this thread!! Ugh... I have so much weight to lose that more often than not I just feel frustrated and overwhelmed by it. Occasionally I get a spurt of motivation and momentum but it's hard to maintain the enthusiasm when it takes 30-40 pounds coming off before it's even really visibly noticeable. :( Weight is truly the big ol' thorn in my rosy life.

But I went to the gym today and had a fabulous cardio workout. So that's one day! And I am admittedly down 8 pounds from where I was at the beginning of summer (tip of the iceberg folks... to some 8 pounds is a huge loss, but where I stand weight-wise it's really just a blip of success :P ). I think I've lost a bit because I have less appetite during the summer. But I've really been having a hard time mentally getting in the game over the last few months because of our efforts to try to conceive and then my subsequent miscarriage last month. It's hard. There's always an excuse though. I'm way too comfortable leaning on them.

Anyway, I'll be watching and trying to participate in this thread. I definitely need the help!

I am inspired by all of your hard work! I was doing really well in the spring, but then summer happened. We have basically been on vacation all summer, (if you can call staying in a VERY small town in AZ while my husband attends a military camp on vacation) so it has been hard to keep any regular excersice going. Actually, I have more time now and everything I need, I just lack motivation. Next week I am going to UT to visit my sisters, (including Anna) for a few weeks. Maybe she and I can motivate each other?

Theresa, I completely agree with losing 7 lbs. by Labor Day and I love the new thread! Yesterday I drove back home to NM from our house in TX. As I was driving I popped in a motivational tape. I bought it a long time ago, but never listened to it. It suggested writing down your goals because the people who write down their goals are more likely to meet them. So I wrote down my goal...drop 7 pounds by mid-August. And lo and behold, you've got the same thing posted! A few of the pounds are from the July 4th holiday. DH and I went home to Ohio and ate ice cream almost every day for a week (plus lots of hot dogs and chips). But I am back home in NM and ready to get rid of these last few pounds. Tomorrow, I plan to begin working out again and cut out the junk food and desserts.

Germon's Mom - welcome! You are to a great start! Beca...I'd hate to see you give up SG time, but your health is more important! PV Mom 2...I'm so glad to hear that you are loosing your pregnancy weight. DH and I want to get pregnant by the end of the year and I am dreading the weight gain…mostly because I am afraid that I won’t lose it after I give birth (my Mom never did; I’m afraid that I will follow her foot steps). However, I figure if I start off at my best weight and don't begin eating tons of desserts when I get pregnant that I'll be okay. It's encouraging to read how much weight that you have lost. Keep up the good work! AngRoCamp...it is so great to hear that you've lost 8 lbs...I know that you can drop the rest of your weight. We are here for you! Welcome jebsmom...I know that you can begin working out...it sounds like you've done it before and have the desire to begin again!

Welcome Paige, Eleanor and Ang to the thread! I hope we call keep motivation each other!

Dh and I weighed in yesterday and I'm down 11 pounds in 3 weeks. I actually fit into a pair of shorts I couldn't wear 10 days ago, and wear them comfortably. I didn't workout today, but we went to the Buffalo Zoo and walked all day in 90+ degree weather. I'm exhausted now, so I'm counting it as a workout!

OK, I did as I said I would - and more! I did 20 minutes on the indoor bike and took a half hour walk after dinner. That's a good start.

Okay--I did my 30 minutes of laps in the pool tonight. After adding that to my TurboJam workout yesterday, my legs almost collapsed on me as I walked out of the "natatorium" (I kid you not--that's what the university calls its enclosed pool). My handsome, wonderful, loving, amazing husband has told me that I need to take the day off tomorrow to let my muscles recuperate. Isn't he a sweetie!

Well everyone, I'm feeling inspired. Sometimes it just helps to know that there are other people struggling just the way you are, and that they are doing something about it.

Last week was bad-I excersized one day. But, I'm going to do better this week. Thanks for the motivation! I'll check in tomorrow after I do my pilates.

How are we this morning, girls? I'm getting a late start. DH took the girls to art class and I had to wait until they left. But I'm here, all be it a few hours later.

I'm trying a different treadmill program today, strictly by accident. (pressed the wrong button!) It is tougher! I'm lovin' it. I think that for now on I'll mix it up a bit. This is really a work out!

Anyone able to get outside? What is the weather like? I'd love to get out. I need to get me some outdoor sneakers. I'm eating light, too. Yesterday we went to McDonalds for lunch, but I got the southwest salad. No dressing. It was OK, but I like the chicken bacon ranch salad better. I also had just 1 piece of chocolate yesterday! YAY! Let's see if I can repeat my good habits today.

I think I'm going to by that belly cruncher. DH will be surprised, but it is my money...I'm sure I'll use it all the time. That is really my target area. I'm getting sick of the little pooch over my waistline! ;)

I was 125 yesterday. My goal is 118 by September. Let's see if I can get there!!

I'm here again. I did an aerobics workout this morning, then vacuumed the house and washed the kitchen floor. It's not as much as I usually do, but at least I got a good sweat going.

Today is going to be HOT and HUMID, with lots of scattered thunderstorms. I'm trying to think of things for the girls to do inside today instead of going out to play. I don't know what I did before I had central air!

Tomorrow I'm taking the day off again so I can go shopping. I also want to get the girls and myself a haircut. Maybe I can motivate myself to workout tomorrow night. I have to stay flexible, right?

I worked out on the elliptical this morning for one mile, which takes about 20 minutes for me. Next week, I am thinking about raising the level on my machine a notch. More time to work out isn't really possible, because I can barely keep the kids occupied for 20 minutes now.

I did my weigh-in this morning, a day later than normal. But I'm happy to report that I am down one more pound! I'm definitely in for this "pound a week by Labor Day" challenge! That'll put me at 15 pounds lost this summer, and I'd be ECSTATIC with those kind of results!

As for an outdoor workout, I like to walk, especially with our dog, when I get the chance. I don't do it in the intense summer heat, though. So during the summer months, I average about a walk a week. And it's always in addition to my daily ellipitical workout. But I do try to get outside every day and throw a frisbee for the dog till he tires out.

I did 20 minutes on the indoor bike this afternoon and the 15 minutes walking outside. It was such a nice day. I would have liked to have been out longer but when I got to one point on my route, its an easy walk home or going on would have been another 15 or 20 minutes and my feet and ankle just wasn't up to it. Definitely calling the podiatrist tomorrow. :)

I'll jump in on this! What a cool part of the forum I just discovered!

Today, I jumped rope for 30 minutes, and did abs, glutes, and squats. Now I'm so hungry, I could totally pig out on BAD, VERY BAD stuff, but you gave me the motivation to avoid and eat something healthy! Thanks!

I'm not going to weigh myself, I'm just going to take one day at a a time, and achieve my goal for the day. Then, one day, my pants will be too big, and I'll be very happy!

No working out for me today--remember DH told me to take a day off to let my muscles recuperate! But I did spend about 5 hours at the computer working on grading for my online class, so at least I was productive--even if I didn't get my muscles going!

Hey all- a pound a week, I can shoot for that! Carla- you have inspired me! I want to fit into my once "fat" clothes again!!!!!

So, this week I have managed a pilates workout and a mile walk with weights! Thanks for the inspiration.

How do you manage to get in healthy food? My problem lately is no time- and just grabbing. I used to plan and that worked well, now sometimes I don't even have time for that! Any suggestions are appreciated! :dancing_penguin:

Hey Kim!!! Glad to have you on with this challenge!

Eating is always tough for me too. I'm a picker, not a meal eater, at least not until dinner. It has always worked well for me in the past but now that I am over 40, it is getting harder. For breakfast, I've been eating a cup of grapefruit and cottage cheese. (Lots of coffee too!) then I pick at lunch. Sometimes I'll make myself a smoothie, or I'll just have some chicken salad and crackers. Then dinner is normal with the family. One thing I have changed is filling my plate ONCE. That is all. Then I sit back and watch the rest of them pig out. I like it!

Workout continues this morning. 3 miles at 3.6 mph. My treadmill is still giving me a wierd program when i type my other one it...but it is a good workout all the same.

I really need to work on the water. I don't drink enough. I bought this Twist Water. It comes in 30 oz bottles. It is real water with flavor enhancements. No sugar or artifical sweetners. If I can drink 2 of these a day, it would be just about a gallon of water, which is what is recommended, so I'm going to try today.

Anyone else up for my challenge??

Theresa

It's so great to see everyone weighing in and setting goals! I weighed myself yesterday and was shocked to see myself at 161! I haven't been that low in months! Right now I am thanking my nephews and niece for keeping me super busy while I was visiting them over July 4th. One evening I playing on the swing set with my niece...I don't remember swinging being such a good work! :)

If I loose a pound a week for the next several weeks, I'll be at my goal weight of 155 before Labor Day! That would be so very, very cool!

And yesterday, I went to the gym and walked 10 minutes, did 20 minutes of upper body weights, and 5 minutes of stretching. This morning I woke up and walked three miles outside. As long as I get outside early in the morning, the weather isn't too hot...low 70s. If I wait until the afternoon, I'm walking in the upper 90s or 100s! That is way too hot! However, it was really hard to get up when the alarm clock when off! I am going to have go to bed a bit earlier today! :)

As to food, I try not keep sweets around the house. I always buy two or three different types of fruit. I'll wash them at the beginning of the week so that whenever I'm hungry, I've got good food to eat. I also keep pumpkin seeds around for a quick pick me up. I usually buy salad fixing too...I clean the lettuce up at the beginning of the week so that I can easily make a salad at lunch.

Hi, Everybody!

I'm back from vacation and I sure do need to knuckle down now. After three weeks in Scandinavia, I have 1200 photos to scrap and an extra 5 pounds on my rump. Even though we walked over 15,000 steps every day (I wore my pedometer the whole time), I don't think we passed an ice cream stand the whole time.

So I have new resolve, but I sure am going to need help!

I did 5 1/2 miles in 30 minutes on the "real" bike after dinner today. It is so beautiful out for the middle of summer in Nebraska. That really feels like so much better of a workout than the indoor bike. I'm going to make my weigh-in on Friday. I was down one this morning but that doesn't mean it will still be gone on Friday! My goal is 20 lbs before my next med review with my PCP. That's three months to get it done.

Vacations are always tough on the waistline, MN Scrapper. We're here for ya. Congratulations to all those that are having success.

Pat-I hear you on the fickleness of the scales. This morning I was down another couple of pounds, but it has been so hot here I am sure it was all just water!!! So I too will weigh-in "officially" on Fridays. Didn't get my workout in this morning, but I do aquatic therapy for about 3 hours today, so that should count for something right? And last night I was so impressed with my choice of sweet after dinner treat- I had fresh blueberries, strawberries and a dollop of coolwhip! It was so yummy and refreshing! I didn't even want chocolate ;)

thanks for all of the continued motivation! I can't wait to change my little slider at thebottom... hopefully tomorrow!
