I'm excited b/c my sister sent me a surprise gift, an electronic stepper! It's really compact and I think it will be a great addition to my exercise routine!

Walked the block again today and did the stepper for just a few! Wheeww, going to have to work up on that one!

And I'm cleaning house today: vacuum, mop, windows! uuummmmm, seems like I have more energy since I started walking! Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why, does it??!!!!

I Did catch Biggest Loser open last night, and picked up this tidbit from the discussions about diet.

Protein+carb+fat at every meal and snack for high energy and faster metabolism...Think I'll post that on my fridge!

Good for you, Cathy! Congrats on the stepper. I wish I had one like that. I'll have to look into it sometime. And that's a great little tidbit of info you shared. Thank you! :)

I didn't get to exercise yesterday at all but I plan to do an hour on the gazelle tonight at some point. (I take a 20 min break halfway through.)

Pat, way to go on the 2lb loss again. April, you are doing great, too!

I meant to post on Wednesday about how I didn't go on my walk, but worked hard in the yard for an hour and a half. I was going to walk today, but I'm not feeling so great again. My throat is really sore and my ears were burning. I'm not sure if it's allergies catching up to me after being outside so much Wednesday or all this hot then cold weather. Either way I didn't want to push myself too hard and end up really sick. I will be doing some walking tomorrow, but hopefully Monday I'll be back at it again.

Hope you're feeling better Wendee. I did an hour on the elliptical today. Wish they'd fix the ventilation in the room my class was in. (Still is in, I'm just not attending) I can breathe so much better in other parts of the gym.

I've had a bit of a difficult past few days with my exercising. I've been too busy for my own good! LOL I hope to be back with it again on Monday. I think I need a couple days to feel more like myself and to catch up on some things around here that have taken a back burner. I'm sooooooo tired! It must be fall.. I always feel lower in the energy department in fall.

Gosh, I always feel more energized in the fall! The cooler weather always gets me moving. I have been working out even though my folks are in town, so I feel good! They leave tomorrow and then HOPEFULLY I can get back on the message boards. I feel like such a stranger.

My mom and I have been sharing recipes while she has been here. Unfortunately they aren't all the healthiest, but they sure look good! I do love to cook. I just wish I could make more stuff that is actually good for you and tastes good too (and that my kids will eat!) I just have a few tried and true recipes, and we are getting sick of eating the same old things all the time.

Everyone hanging in there? Any weigh ins? Christmas is coming. It would be a good time to set some goals rather than waiting for the New Year. Let's hear them!!

Hey girls!

Theresa, glad you had a nice visit with your parents! Are you just naturally a high energy person??? Perhaps, some of that comes from working out on a regular basis!! You are an inspiration to us all!

I'm keeping with it on walking the dog.....even walked her twice yesterday. But I've not gotten into a regular routine with the stepper or exercise bike though. I spent several hours out in the yard working on my flower pots. The fresh air was nice, and I think even that was an increase in my normal activity doing laundry and computer work. Will try to weigh in tomorrow and post an update.

April, a whole hour on the elliptical??!!!! Man, I have a long way to go to catch up with some of you, but watch out cause HERE I COME!!! (positive self-talk going on here!)

Come on Dee! If these other gals can do it we can too! Hope you've gotten some of your tasks out of the way!

See ya tomorrow!

WEll, I am totally depressed! I bought a new scale, we really needed one and this does BMI, water % and weight all digital. Well it says I am 5 pounds heavier than our old non-digital says. So I have further to go than I thought!

Not doing so well in the exercise area. I have been lazy and not walking at lunch. I am trying to stick to my diet so I haven't gained anything, but I haven't lost anything either. I really need to get back to walking. Tomorrow I have a 2 hour dance class, which will be the only exercise I am going to get in the past week. Thank goodness for my dance, otherwise I would be totally dormant.

Hey Girls! It is Wednesday! Hello?!? Where is the week going? Where is the MONTH going?!? Ugh! I feel great today...no more cramps...ready to tackle a day. I have so much to do...like what else is new?

Cathy, am I high energy? Good question! I don't know if I would say I'm high energy, but I am energy all the time. Since I cut TV out of my life, I am amazed at how much time there is in a day. I do need to be doing something at all times. I'm one of those kinds of people who takes super quick showers (showers can be a waste of time), I multi-task at all times (right now I am typing this on the treadmill), I fold laundry while I'm surfing the web, every minute of my day is spent doing something. I am so sure that this all came from my job as a TV meteorologist...hence my dislike of TV. Time was such a commodity. You had to use it right...everything had a minute to get done and it HAD to get done. I still have nightmares that I have to be on the air in 2 minutes, and I'm still in my pajamas, or I can't find my makeup, or I'm stuck in traffic, or lost. Crazy....and as my need to stay fit...that is just me. I look in the mirror and I think, "I don't want to look like all the others...I don't want to be average...I want to be better than average..." I think that again, it comes from the weather thing...that job changed my life in so many ways. And now that I am out of it, I have slipped back into a shell. I don't go out much, I stay home and find things to occupy my minutes. And I have all of you! So if I can inspire you to be a little more active and get yourselves to look at yourself and think "I want to be BETTER", then I have accomplished it all!! Just think of me as the little voice in the back of your head..."What would Theresa do?"

OK, I'll stop now..got off on a tangent...Do YOU think I'm high energy?!? LOL! How about you girls? Are you high energy?? Exercise gives you energy...but I''m sure you know that by now! ;)

OK Fill me in! How are we?

Theresa

My high energy days are few and far between...or at least it feels that way sometimes.

Well, I didn't work out any last week...or at least that I can remember, which probably means that I didn't work out. At the beginning of this week, I didn't feel great but I worked out anyway...a lot lighter workouts; but none the less, I got moving! Yesterday I did weights - I do feel good about that. Today, I'll head out for a walk and try to do the interval training on the treadmill again.

And I did finally call the doctor...she put me on some new medicine two weeks ago. I really haven't felt good since then...come to find out, the dose was too high! Now wonder I haven't felt quite myself. Now that I've cut down on it, I'm starting to feel better. Yeah me! Maybe next time I should call the doctor sooner? Definitely somthing to ponder... :)

I've done okay eating wise, despite the fact that DH keeps buying candy. He'll buying high frustose corn syrup candies...gummie bears, juji fruits, twizlers. When I do say something, he just looks at me and says, "But it's fat free..how can that be bad for you?" Oh, well! What can I do? At least I have control over the meals!

Keep up the good work girls! I love reading about everyone's progress!

I am definitely not high energy. I'm pretty laid back. I could easily sit at the computer all day - if my aches and pains allowed it. I try hard to keep moving. I don't just sit and watch tv very often but I always have it on while I'm at the computer.

I just got back from a bike ride on a absolutely gorgeous afternoon. It rained most of the day yesterday so I didn't get out and it started off raining this morning but cleared a little after noon. I'm actually down one lb. this week. Lets hope I don't put it back on over the weekend away. ;)

Theresa, I know what you mean about the dreams/nightmares about time demands at work. The sign shop I worked for was generally one day turn around and we often took in more work than could be done in 8 hours. I had work dreams ALL the time. I've only had a couple since I was let go but I sure don't miss that time stress. I thought getting rid of the stress was really going to help me lose weight but that hasn't proven to be the case.

THERESA, in fall I have more energy than in the heat of summer but because the days get shorter I find that my body wants to sleep more hours and so I feel tired. As for recipes that are healthy, I find some in WebMD newsletters and some at Taste of Home's website. They aren't ALL healthy there but you can choose from their low fat recipes or whatever. And best of all, they are usually relatively easy to make. I've been staying a lb or two from my last weighing so my ticker is still accurate, I guess. As for goals, the biggest thing is to try to maintain 4hrs of exercise a week. I do well for a week or two and then get busy and miss some... then do well again and then not... :(

CATHY, some of my tasks are out of the way and I'm hoping to hit something closer to normal by the middle of next week or so. I'm getting there! LOL If things would just quit popping up... ;)

DAWN, I'm sorry to hear your new scale isn't encouraging. I think they need to design one that compliments you when you weigh in! :D Sounds like it does have some neat features.

JULIE, a two hour dance class? Sounds like a real workout!

GIGGSSTER, I think you are doing great! I can commiserate about the treats thing. I'm pretty good at monitoring myself with chocolate these days though others in the family like to buy other things that I like and I have a really hard time with temptation then. The worst for me is chips or popcorn. I have cut back on popcorn by about half lately though.

PAT, you sound a lot like me when it comes to the computer. I used to chat a lot. Then I went to email lists. Now I do a variety of things online and on the computer. Some time is spent with planning and recording homeschool stuff but I probably spend about an equal amount of time between email, different websites I frequent (like this one), and e-newsletters. I need to find some time for digi-scrapping now! LOL I think I'll try to cut back the e-newsletters.. or the email. And I still want to make it to a chat now and again here... Anyway, CONGRATS on being down a little. Even a pound adds up in time. Keep up the good work!

Wow, this got long. Sorry! LOL

Never apologize for a long post! We love hearing what you have to say! ;)

It is FRIDAY! Do you believe it? The weekend is here and I will be behind my computer screen writing tutorials and items for the newsletter. Good thing I'm getting my workout in today. I already warned DH and the kids..."Dont bug me this weekend....I have too much to do!"

I'm still a believer that you can eat whatever you want, as long as you don't eat too much of it. I do not like anything but butter on my bread. I don't like light anything...light mayo, light salad dressing, light sour cream...they can keep it. I think you can eat what you want as long as you don't eat it all. I'm living proof of it, really. I have a great cholesterol number...my triglicerides are consistently lower than 25, which is unheard of, I have maintained my weight (except when I was pregnant) for my entire adult life. I like yummy real food...but I limit myself to one serving. What I need to do is make LESS food. I need to make enough so everyone has just enough...that is tough to do with 2 growing 7 year olds and a 6'3" husband. And when the kids are home from college, well forget it! They eat like it is their last meal!

But I'm working on it...

Any big plans this weekend? I'll be working, cleaning, working some more..and cooking dinner! LOL!!

My Dh sent this to me this morning...kinda goes with my post the other day. I had a really good laugh.

This weekend is Oktoberfest at the military base near out house. The German's host it every year and it is a blast...not great for a diet, but it's a lot of fun. Work out wise, I've done good this week. I've pushed myself to work out knowing that tomorrow my diet will be far, far, far from perfect!

And Mellowdee I love the long post. Mine are usually long too! :) And when I want popcorn, I grab one of those 100 calorie packs for a snack. When I get hungry mid-afternoon, I'll eat that and a piece of fruit.

Well, I did loose 1.5 pounds since Tuesday... that is at least good. I am using the elliptical in the am before getting ready for school and then after the kids go to bed. Usually only 15 minutes in the am but 30-60 minutes in the pm. I have been good about what I have eaten this week and taking my vitamins too.

I am the queen of baby spinach... a little sea salt sprinkled on it and I will just munch. My family thinks I am crazy but I have always had low iron so this at least keeps me in a lower than average level instead of dangerously low.
Dawn - who will be at soccer all day saturday and grardening after church on Sunday if the heat calms down enough.

Cute comic, Giggster!

Monday is back! Where did the weekend go? This morning, I am just doing the treadmill. One look at that stairstepper this morning and I fell to my knees! I just don't have the motivation. I haven't gotten on the scale in weeks! I know the number will not have moved. I think I'm just going to wait out fall. Plus, I'll be so busy the next few weeks, I'm hoping the weight will just fall off! LOL! You never know!

Keep it up Dawn! 1.5 pounds is better than nothing!
Any other updates?

Hope you all check in with me soon. I miss the busy exercise forum!

I hate when those teachers don't show. Who do they think they are anyway? People who are late and people who don't show. There is nothing more annoying than that.

I'm walking today on the treadmill because I have so much to get done on the computer...that is OK though. I feel good. I feel like I'm losing some weight...as I walk, my shorts are falling down! Uncomfortable, but it feel strangly comforting! LOL! I think I might weigh myself tomorrow morning just to be sure...

TUESDAY! If you all don't know this yet, I'm hosting the Scrap Girls retreat. A few staff members are getting together for a fun weekend. So, I'm expecting 14 next Thursday. A few will be staying elsewhere, but I managed to get sleeping space together for 11. The house is nearly finished. It sparkles, I tell you, SPARKLES! All the extra running around has more than helped my weight. I feel refreshed, allbeit somewhat exhausted at the same time. As long as I don't stop to think about it, I'm OK!

How is everyone? It is awfully quiet around here. Where is everyone?

Anyone hoping to fit into a holiday outfit? Now is a good time to set holiday goals. Get a head start on the new year...Tell me about it! I want to know!

Well I've been absent from this thread for awhile and doing terribly at trying to work out until recently and in fact was putting on more lbs... So I think by getting back on track I have redeemed myself enough to come on back on and chat with you all. I've done 30 min/day for the last 5 days on my treadmill and have stopped all devil-treats and the wine at dinner time, and I'm dismissing heavy carbo items. Nothing like a calendar to shake you up...we're going on a cruise in Nov 24 with a bunch of our friends, and I remember how horrible I looked in the ship photographers pics on the last cruise...big belly hanging out in my formal photo. Ugh! So I'm back on track and will go try on a fancy dress in 1 month and see how I do. Do you think I should buy the dress I saw in 2 sizes smaller and hang it up where I see it everyday? I've heard this works for some.

Oh, Debby! Sounds like a great idea! For sure buy one a size smaller...that is great encouragement.

And a CRUISE! WOW! My parents announced that they are taking my two sisters and I and our families on a celebretory cruise next summer. They will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. So we are all going on the Liberty of the Seas! It is the biggest cruise ship out there. I'm very excited...but we have to wait until AUGUST! Hope you have fun! Definately keep us up to date on your workouts so we can help.

It has been sooooooo quiet here...I'm getting worried about everyone! Please, check in!

DH gave me the OK to choose new carpet for our bedroom...Today we carpet shop this morning...then on with a busy day. So much to do! I love staying busy!

OK, got to run... I'll let you know how I do on the scale tomorrow!!

I've just been busy. Nothing to worry about. Last week and the week before I didn't do very well at staying consistent with my exercise but this week has been better so far. It's been insanely hectic! I'd say I've been doing ok with eating since my husband was diagnosed with gout last week and we've been really watching WHAT we're eating. I'm not sure about portion sizes but it's been mostly veggies so I'm not overly concerned. Feeling a little drained today and still need to exercise but hopefully that will fall into place after supper (which is running late). Gotta run!

Sounds like everyone is doing pretty well. Good luck with the scale Theresa! ;)

Hey Dee! It sounds like you are one the right path again! Good for you...

I'm walking, walking, walking away. I feel great! I'm avoiding that stairstepper though. I need to incorporate that back in my workout. Maybe I can alternate. I hate to not use it since it was such a nice gesture by my husband's ex wife, but it is really a workout...OK, tomorrow...I'll get on it tomorrow.

Last night DH and I went out to dinner while the girls had religion class. We were very good. We just shared 3 appetizers and shared a dinner salad. He had a few light beers and I had a martini. It was the perfect meal, really. If you and your DH share the same tastes, this is a good way to order food. Slowly work your way through a few appetizers. You'll realize quickly that you don't want a full entree, so opt for sharing a salad.

I understand there is a new greek yogurt on the market that is fat free. I haven't seen it in MN yet. Has anyone else seen it where they are? Hungrygirl.com talked about it in this mornings' news letter. If anyone has tried it, let me know!

It is Thursday. Friday is just around the corner....OH MY!! I need to get busy~ Have a great one, gals! Be sure to check in here! We want to hear from you!

Theresa-thanks for the great push you gave me, and guess what! We're sailing on the Liberty of the Seas too! We bought this cruise about 2 years ago, beofre the ship was built. Our travel agent got us all a great deal on it -pre-construction and then it seemed sooooo far away that "reducing" didn't seem like such a priorty till just recently.
It's a great ship, youhave to look at their website. Sorry I don't know how to post a link yet, but if you google Liberty of the Seas you'll get it. This ship has a skating rink (with ice shows at night) a rock climbing wall and a couple of theatres. You'll be amazed when you look at the website but August will feel even further away, LOL.
I think I'll go and see about that dress today, then up my treadmill to 40 min.

Good morning!

Yep, I'm excited about my cruise in January also! We are on a different ship though. Ours was booked through Royal Carribean, and we are on the Voyager of the Seas! Isn't it cool that you can see all the parts of the ship online! There is even an ice skating rink on this one! I've never been on a cruise so I'm fascinated by all aspects. We booked adjoining balcony rooms. My 2 daughters will be in the room next to my sister and I. Girls only!

I'm happy to report that I didn't gain any while on my vacation at my mom's. I really ate a lot of junk while I was there! Will try to make healthier choices this week.

My dog Daisy is calling my name to go on our regular morning walk.........here we go.........

Okay, so it seems that I have been avoiding this thread for quite a while now. Well, I'm back. And I'm happy to report that I've officially lost 10 lbs since June (that's HUGE for me). I'm just eating slightly better (no high fructose corn syrup and a few more veggies) and trying to move more. We got a new puppy that ISN'T potty trained yet, so I've been walking more. She comes to work with me so I'm getting out a lot. ;)

I'll have to read back and see what alls happened in my absence. I'm still hoping to get down a dress size before the end of December. My cousin is getting married and I need to find another inspirational dress. His sister was married in September and I LOVED the dress I had for her wedding. Made me want to look really good in it. Seems to be a bit motivating for me. I'll also put the ticker back in October. My signature was just too long for me. :)

Glad to be back...

HELP!!!!!! I am out of control. Was already having difficulty staying on my diet, and then I went away, and gained 3 pounds, but since I have been back I have been SOOOOO out of control. Yesterday I ate a WHOLE package of Double Stuff oreo cookies. Yes I said the whole package. I know I'm being bad, and I wake up and say this is it it is going to stop, and then I'm eating again. I have wedding next week in California, and I really wanted to be thinner for it, but that didn't happen. Now I am just hoping that I stop long enough to maybe drop a pound.
