Okay, let's see...

Here is a little blurb from the instruction sheet...

If you are on a PC: Start Photoshop. Do NOT load the files into PS from within PS. Using File Explorer navigate to the folder that has the action in it on your hard drive. You should be able to see your Photoshop Window open and your File Explorer Window open. Select the action and tool presets files that are in the folder in File Explorer (they end in .atn and .tpl) and drag and drop the files from the folder onto your Photoshop workspace.

Did you load everything by dragging and dropping to the Photoshop folder?

I just thought we'd start here so we can rule these things out and then move on.

Mary, it's 6:25 in Seattle, where I live. I can't help you with your problem, but I can help you scream. I know all about screaming. It if's an ordinary scream, you can just do it as you are. But if it's a really frustrated scream, you need to put on an apron or a skirt so you can "pull up your dress and scream." That phrase refers to what women used to do when they saw a mouse or a bug in their kitchen. I figure Elements and Photoshop are the equivalent of mice and bugs when you can't get them to work after trying to the point you get frustrated.

Let me know the exact time you want to scream. I'll convert that to my time and we'll have us a good time screamin'. Be sure to let me know how many screams you want and the duration of each scream.

Mary, I have that action set, so I can probably help you. You need to make sure you have the brush set loaded that came with the Action. So, check that out and get back to me. In the meantime I'll load it up in my Photoshop and walk you through it if you want.

Oh good! Yay, great feeling isn't it?

I just ran the action all the way through too and it's a really fun one isn't it? Actions can be rough at first but once you get the hang of them, they are SO great. I just wrote a new action that will be hitting the boutique in the next few weeks. You'll have to wait and see what this one does! :)

YIPPEE for you Mary!! One thing I noticed, though. I think you forgot the step to set the Shape Dynamics Angle Jitter to Direction. I remember I had problems with that at first, too. This will make your stitches go in the right direction down the sides! You might alway want to take a look at Cheryl Barber's Stitching & Hole Styles:

http://store.scrapgirls.com/product.php?id=8823&cat=

http://store.scrapgirls.com/product.php?id=8294&cat=

You can use one of these styles these to make your stitches look more realistic - especially if you don't want to fiddle with the bevel & emboss & texture or pattern settings on your own. I'm basically lazy like that - lol!

I'm sorry you are having so many problems with this. When you first select the object you want to apply the stitching to do you get the running ants? You won't get running ants simply by clicking on the layer or ctrl + clicking on the layer. You have to ctrl + click on the little photo icon of the object in your layer. If you ctrl+click on the little photo in your layer, you should then see running ants going around the object you want selected. Let me know what you are still having problems, and you can go ahead and pm me and I can work through it with you. Let's get it working for you! :)

When you go through the enclosed instructions which step are you stuck on. If you can tell me the step number then I can help figure out what is causing the problem and we can go from there. If you don't see running ants before you start the action then you will run into the problem where it says that it can not make a path. Are you seeing running ants at all?

This is weird. You are clicking on the thumbnail "picture" right, and not the whole layer?.. I have never had this not work for me and so that is really strange and bizarre! Does the action work right when you do the selection like you are?

Here's a screen shot showing exactly where you should click (yep with the mouse.) while holding down the ctrl key (for pc) or (cmd key for mac). If you click on the blue part of the layer palette it will not work, it has to be the little picture. Make sure your arrow or move tool is selected in your tools palette before clicking (just to be sure that's not causing the problem). If you care clicking on the picture and it is still not working, I am completely baffled! I've never had this not work. Let me know if this is still what your doing and I'll have to bring in the troops (other designers) to figure out what could possibly be going wrong with this! :)

Mary, don't feel bad at all! I used to use PS 7 and I could select a layer by clicking in that open area so when I got CS2, I sat forever trying to select the same way and was sure I had defective software. lol

I have been thinking about getting the stitching styles so this exchange has been interesting. I have a question though. What is the difference between 4101 and 4103 stitching styles? I have PSE 5 so I realize I can't use the Action that is sold separately.

No problem Mary! I'm glad we figured it out. I should have just posted the picture long ago as it does help clarify things a lot more!:) It took me forever to even realize I could do that! LOL. But once you realize you can do that here are so many things you can with it, and it's so much easier that trying to do the magic wand. Yeah! I'm glad we got it, hopefully you should be able to use the stitching action fine now!:) Don't feel bad at all! That's why we're here to help out and make life easier! Have fun now!

Pat I'm not sure what the difference in the two stitching styles as they are Cheryls. I'll see if I can figure it out, it might just be the stitching textures and shadows possibly? ok... just looked at them (viewed in the gallery and I'm not quite sure. I"ll pm Cheryl and see if can possibly answer your question.)
