Hello, all!

I use Digital Image Suite and absolutely love it. It is so simple to use and can do almost anything PS or PSE can after a little playing with it. But I am in mourning. Microsoft has decided to discontinue DIP and DIS because, they say, the capability is built into Vista. I don't plan on getting Vista until it's been out awhile longer in any case, but I just don't see that an operating system could possibly have all the tools and capability necessary to do what we do with it. I don't think Microsoft knows how many people really use these products, what they are used for, and what it will do to their market share to discontinue and not support what is already out here.

Enough hue and cry will alert them so PROTEST. Invite them to look at your galleries and see if the tools in Vista REALLY will do what you do with the program and encourage them to not make this move.

I just saw this topic. I haven't been on here for a while.

I,too am upset over the discontinuation of DIP! Maybe Vista does have the capabilities built in but what about all the millions of people who DO NOT have Vista and don't plan to purchase it soon? This sounds like a move to force people into buying Vista!

I'm sorry about the discontinuation of your programs! I'm also a bit miffed at Microsoft for withdrawing its support for FrontPage. Progress, I guess.

I've had Vista for about two weeks now, and although it has some photo editing capabilities in its Window Photo Gallery such as Auto Adjust for both exposure and color, individual adjust for exposure and color, a crop feature, and a fix red eye. I haven't found that it could replace any of photo editing programs. It's got a pretty neat filing system for photos, but no better than I have with PSP XI, nor do I imagine it's better that what the PS and PSE people have with their programs.

Windows Photo Gallery is all right, but it's not for those of us here at Scrap Girls who are interested in doing creative things with our photos. It's just a pretty basic utility for people who just need to get their pictures off their cameras and into email, print, or some sort of storagae.

Just my opinion.

I would agree with Sarah. I use PSE 5 so hadn't even really looked for Windows Vista graphics program. I didn't even see anything other than the Windows Gallery and since I use PSE Organizer, I don't use that. It's unfortunate the DIP and DIS won't be supported anymore for those that have them and use them.

Microsoft is famous for creating and then phasing out thier different graphics/photos programs.
Years ago had they Image Composer which was part of FP 97 98.
It was Microsoft attempt at Graphics Editing Software.
Photo Draw was around for a very short time with some versions of FP 2000 only and gone.
Picture It was replaced by DIP and DIS and DIP was better then PI from what I heard.

I think Corel and Adobe have been taken over the graphics market
and microsoft canot keep up with thier competion.

Without trust, honesty & loyalty all your friendships will turn to dust, be a friend worth having, be a light in the sky.
