I think it might be easiest to use a HUGE brush with very soft edges to erase. (I'm a PS7 user, though...)

I'm not sure if it works the same on the Mac, but one way is to use your Rectangular Marquee tool with a substantial number in the Feather box (at the top of the workspace.) You can then copy and paste that selected area into your layout or just drag it over. You can't tell how much it is feathering until you move it so you may have to do a few different trys at it. HTH

I do what Pat says or use the circle marquee same results differnt feathering

I was going to do a layer mask, but I knew there had to be an easier way!!!
