An american decided to write a book about famous churches around

the world. For his first chapter he decided to write about american

churches so he bought a train ticket and took a trip to Boston.

On his first day he was inside a church, taking photographs, when he

noticed a golden telephone mounted on the wall with a sign that read, "$20,000

per call!"

The american, being intrigued, asked a priest who was strolling by

what the telephone was used for. The priest replied that it was a direct

line to heaven and for $20,000 you could talk to God. The american

thanked the priest and went on his way. His next stop was in Texas .

There, at a very large church, he saw the same golden telephone with

the same sign under it.

He wondered if this was the same kind of telephone he had seen in

boston so he asked a nearby nun what its purpose was. She told him that

it was a direct line to heaven and that for $20,000 he could talk to God.

"Thank you," said the american.

He then travelled to Ohio, New York,Florida,San Fransisco and Carolina.

In every church he saw the same golden telephone with the same

"$20,000 per call" sign under it.

The american then began his two week vacation that year and headed across the big pond to the uk and landed in Glasgow and decided whilst on vacation he would see if the scots had the same phone

After settling in his hotel he took a walk around the city of Glasgow and came upon a very old church and went inside. and again, there was the same golden telephone, but this time the sign under it

read,"20 pence per call". [10cent]

The american was surprised so he asked the priest about the sign.

"Father, I have travelled all over America and I have seen this same

golden telephone in many churches. I'm told it is a direct line to heaven,

but in every one the price was $20,000 per call. Why is it so cheap here?"

The priest smiled and answered

"Well laddie, you're in Scotland now, it's a local call." :giggle_bear::giggle_bear::giggle_bear:

hope this made you giggle like it did me and please be assured that no offence was meant by this little joke, we are after all, all gods children and all have a direct line to him upstairs, the big cheif both glaswegian terms for Our God,which are said with as much conviction and faith.

LOL, I've heard variations of this joke before, and I LOVE it! :D

No offense taken at all - I've never been to Scotland, but I've always wanted to go. (My maiden name's Glendening, and there's a family history connection.) I can just imagine Scotland is heaven. :)

The version of the joke I heard recently was of finding that phone in different (US) states, but in Montana it was a local call. My husand and I are particularly fond of that version, too. :D

Love your sense of humor!

okay i admit that the first time i heard the joke it was an englishman but then for those of you across the big pond that wouldnt of been so funny

i suppose where ever it lands people will edit it to suit, but thats whats great about jokes i suppose is that we can personalise them. glad it made a few people smile. :clapping_kitty:

Thanks for sharing. I loved it, specially being from the same side of the pond as you. I hadn't heard it before but if I pass it on, I'll be making it Edinburgh instead of Glasgow - just carrying on the old east/west rivalry!
