Please help...

I am relatively new to digital and need some help. I have created a LO and decided I wanted to add a png to it. I use PSE 4.0. I cannot figure out for the life of me how to add a png file to my lo. I can't use the move tool, it won't move. How do I move that element onto my page so I can use it? I am really frustrated. I feel like a moron! Someone please help me!

If your move tool isn't working, you can always go to the File menu and choose Place. Then you'll be able to pick a file that you want to place on the layout that is open, and you won't even need to open the file itself, it will just show up on your layout. HTH! :)

go to File>Open and select the element you want to add. Open it.

With both windows visible in PSE, hold the shift key and drag the element onto your LO...

This should add your .png file to your LO. It will add it in a new layer. Layers were the hardest concept for me to get the hang of when I started using PSE, but once you get the hang of it, you'll never go back!

keep posting questions, everyone here is really helpful. If you feel like you need more help, get Ro's videos from the store... I would venture to guess that most people here learned PSE from these ;)

WELCOME!!!

Sometimes .png files are kind of transparent and its hard to grab and drag. Besides methods mentioned above, you can sometimes do Select>Select All, Cntrl +C to copy then Cntrl +V to paste into your layout.

OK, that was definitely the solution! Great and thanks. Now, it's on my page. How do I move the element once I've placed it? I guess I am very confused about png files. I do have Ro's tutorials, but I haven't come across one that talks about png's. Does anyone know where I can read more to help me out?

Well, I may have answered my own question. I just kind of dragged the corners until it was in the place I wanted it and then resized it. I am sure there is an easier way, but that worked OK for me!

That's pretty much what you do Lucysmom. Sometimes even on the layout they may be difficult to grab but if you click on the layer in the Layer Palette, it might make it easier. If it deselects when you try and move it because of it's transparency, you can reselect it in the Layers Palette again and nudge it into place with the arrow keys.
