I know i have done this before several times but can't get it to work today :monstercry:

I want to define a brush from a .png. I use a frame .png and get it the size i want and copy it to a new file. I select it then try to define it (in PSE 5) but the selection is not available. I'm pretty sure i didnt have to use the magic wand to select the frame first. I thought I just slected the layer and was able to from there. Am I crazy?

Also I'l pretty sure i did it with a paper template too which a .jpg file. I want to use it like a brush so it's over top of my picutres and not underneath.

Thanks to anyone who can help!

Ok, I just walked through this in PSE 5 and here's what worked. First I used the Magic Wand and selected what I wanted as a brush (a solid black image works best). Once the marching ants were there, I switched to the icon directly below the Magic Wand, it might be the Magic Selection Brush or the Selection Brush Tool. You want the Selection Brush tool. Once you click on that one, it will put a pink like hue over your image. Then go to Edit>Define Brush from Selection and Voila, that should do it. Just save your Brush and you're all set.

Let me know if that doesn't work for some reason. HTH!

Yes- Sometimes it helps to covert your picture/png to a greyscale first, and then adjust the sensitivity of your magic wand.

I know I have defined a brush without using the magic wand or if I did I some how selected these little tiny dots on the attached layout called kneeling in chuch. I don't know how I did it?? I created the brush out of the png file after I adjusted the size of the element to fit the page. I know I moved the element to a new file after I adjusted the size to what I wanted and then somehow defined it as a brush, but I can't get the brush option to be available.

I also somehow selected an enite paper template (jpg file)and changed the colour to use as an overlay. You can see I did it with the attacted file called walking at golf course. Once again I can't remember? I guess this is what happens when you don't have time to scrapbook for a while eh?

Thanks for your help
Alex

Ok... I totally figured it out. I used grouping. I filled a layer above the element I wanted to colour and the did a ctrl + G. I thought I was going crazy!!! i was so sure I was defining a brush to do it but i dont think so.

thanks so much for the help ladies. Its nice to know there are people out there willing to help.
