nicole_j
I just got an email from Adobe offering PSE 6. I can't believe they have a new version already. Here is one benifit it listed: "Quickly find the photos you need with new Smart Albums and a dedicated bin for project-related photos" I wonder if there will be enough changes to make an upgrade worth while. anna
And, I've been debating whether I really needed to upgrade to version 5! I am way behind, I guess. I'll probably wait to upgrade until version 6 is out.
scrappylibrarian
No upgrade for me yet! I'm pretty sure I still havent found all the goodies in 5! Unless of course it comes as a freebie with the Wacom I hope to get for Christmas?

ScrapGirlsRo
Thud. Picking myself off of my floor. Thud. Oh well... Adobe is keeping me personally in business! I think I am going to have to work on CS 3 and this one at the same time. Back and forth. And I am in the middle of so many other projects. Okay. Well. It has to be done. They are keeping me busy! mmouse
I just downloaded the free trial for ps5 yesterday. Was thinking about ordering Ro's secrets for ps5. Now what do I do/ I have'nt really learned much yet, so maybe going to 6 would be a better buy?
ScrapGirlsRo
MMouse, If you want to go ahead and get PSE 6, send Angie an email and let her know that we have talked. You can still get Secrets for PSE 5 - I'm sure it will still work (they don' tchange it THAT much between the versions). When I release the PSE 6 version, I'll swap it out for you. Just show us the receipt for PSE 6 and if it is after today and and before I get Secrets for PSE 6 out, I'll send you the new one. But honestly, we did the same thing for PSE 4 and 5 (during that window) and people always told me that it didn't make any difference for them because I teach the same things. I have to cover the basics in these things. Let us know if you have any questions. I'm trying to down my new PSE 6 right now. Having some trouble with the download manager. schmoo
I'm still on 4 and been holding out to upgrade to 5 but now I'm going to take a look at 6. Thanks for the info. Sue
PBarnes
I just KNEW that they'd be doing that soon! Darn. I don't suppose you can upgrade either. Probably have to buy a whole new program. Don't know if I'll do it or not. I'm pretty happy with 5. The only thing I think that would make me jump on it is if they included text on a path capabilities. Edited: I just went to their website and did some reading. It doesn't look like there is anything new that I'd really care to jump on right now. jmaussie
Wow!! I am still working with Photoshop 7!!! I am having fun learning all that this version can do and that blows my mind, let alone CS, CS2, CS3. So I am well behind the upgrades!! But I am happy ... for the moment! Guest miss bumble
Wow!! I am still working with Photoshop 7!!! I am having fun learning all that this version can do and that blows my mind, let alone CS, CS2, CS3. So I am well behind the upgrades!! But I am happy ... for the moment! Janene I saw it this morning and they are offering a E-Semmiar so I might go and have a little look. Need to check time Zone I want to see if PSE 6 have Actions & Script added to it that would be worth it then or just hold out and save for CS3. I just love Action I've only got the 2 that Lissa D did for PSE PaperTears & Photo's that Pop, there oh so groovey. Can I upgrade from PSE5 too CS3 or do I have to buy CS3 separately ? Lissa D has brought out another ACTION STAMPED for PSE 3,4 & 5,( she's a Doll) went straight into my basket, It's in the newsletter today and another SALE this place ROCKs. I'm all of a dither today, It's so exciting. LOL Chris
Guest Debbyo
I was floored by the announcement of the new PSE 6 and I rushed to Adobe's website to take a look. I dunno, there are some sweet features on it and I seem to have to have to have all the newest things -but I was wondering, how would you deal with all the styles and actions that you've purchased and are in PSE 5 or 4 ? do you copy them into the new version or do they go automatically? I didn't have much in the way of purchased actions or styles in PSE 4 but I've got tons in PSE 5. As far as upgrading they do offer an upgrade price for 5 to 6 -but I don't think you can upgrade from PSE to CS3.
sheriL
Now I'm glad I hadn't given in to the temptation to buy 5 - I've been using DIP, which I really like, except I'm starting to run into problems with its capabilities, and I can't save anything bigger than 100mb for some reason. Anyway, I guess there's a new toy to save for now! Does anyone know if there's a free trial out for pse6? That way I can play while I save! lgsouthfla
WHy do they do this to us??? I am gonna waiton this one. I have PSE5 No need to upgrade in just a year. You would think they would upgrade every few years or so. I just got mine for Christmas and it was pretty new then.
ScrapGirlsRo
I have just looked at it: If it were me making this decision, I would think very carefully before I purchased it. Why? I installed PSE 6 and went wild because I could not get new styles to work. I tried everything. I finally called up Adobe and spent a long time with them on the phone. After talking to a bunch of people, the tech support guy came back and the product development team said that PUTTING NEW STYLES in PSE 6 is NOT SUPPORTED. This means that you couldn't use Melissa's Tear action, or any of the gold styles, or stitching styles, or paper styles, OR ANY OF THEM AT ALL. You are stuck - completely stuck - with that cheesy set that Adobe has provided you. They are hard coded into the software. (The tech guy said that the only hope is if enough adobe customers call in and complain so that the product team will reconsider their decision.) I have said all along that Adobe seems to be slowly , very carefully, removing editing functionaly from PSE so that it becomes less and less like Photoshop and this is one more ka-boom. So don't look forward to things like text on a path appearing in PSE. It won't happen. They want you to buy up to Photoshop. They aren't going to move Photoshop function down. (It makes sense because they need to make money.) This is not the first time I've seen functionality disappear. They do it in a very quiet way and you have to know what you are doing to see what has slipped away. They add things that they think consumers will be interested in instead - like being able to email photos right from within the interface. Well, I can email my photos through my email client but now I can't use neat styles with PSE 6. That is a BUMMER! This upgrade is all about making it easier to email your photos, etc. The different areas of PSE are located within just tabs. There was one good change - they got rid of that cascade/tile/maximize mode confusion point thing. But everything else is the same EXCEPT you can not put in new styles. (So far... I haven't dug deep enough to find out if there are other earth shattering removals. This one was bad enough to make me report it to you.) And so, if it were me...I would keep 4.0 if I was a Mac user. If I had Windows, I would hurry and get 5.0 beause 5.0 is the best of the line. It is a great program - as far as the functionality that we use - and I am very disappointed in Adobe that they would take functionality away that everyone enjoyed so much. Guest Debbyo
Oh Ro, you are the BEST...thanks so much for taking the time out of your already busy day and checking this out so thorougly. I will follow your advice and stick to my SG"style"/SG"action" laden PSE 5. I am contemplating a complaint email to Adobe, they make it look so sweet and don't let you know these little secrets. Thank goodness for you, Ro.

Susan Neff
Wow, Ro - thanks for the info!!! I've gotten so that I do a lot of stuff in PS now, but I still like to build layouts in PSE5 because (to me) PSE5 is very user-friendly. Seems there would be no point in getting PSE6 - clearly we're not their market. I can understand why they're trying to get folks like us to use PS (and I don't begrudge them their need to make money). But I wonder if, when PSE5 is no longer available, PSP might find themselves with a bunch of new customers.
MaryJo
I'm glad to here that about 6. since I'm new I'm still learning PSE5 . At least now I don't have to concern myself with spending more money on something that is so new. Thanks Ro, you're a great help in these situations.
