Each Saturday, the Welcoming Committee members issue a color challenge for all Scrap Girls members. This week is my turn to host the Color Challenge event, and I've decided to announce my challenge a day early and invite you to join me for a chat all about color!

Do you know what the difference between a hue and a tint is? Can you name one example of a diad color scheme?

This week's color challenge is to use secondary colors on your layout. A secondary color is a color created by mixing any two of the primary colors together.

Use GREEN, ORANGE, and PURPLE for your layout! Pick one or use them all (just in time for Halloween, right??)!

You know I never did get the difference between hue, tint, saturation, etc. Sounds like I need to be at the chat. It is supposed to rain here so I most likely will be heading right home after picking up my preschooler. Think I will head to the computer to join you guys! Sounds like a good one! If you came to my chat, you know I promised to post a few of the lessons on the thread. I wanted to get this done yesterday, but time got away from me. So here it is!

I really appreciate you all coming, and hope you each learned a little something about color.

Here's the color wheel sample I used for the chat ---> Color Wheel
My sample is pretty basic, so if you're looking for a more detailed one, try googling images for "color wheel" and you'll come up with quite a few.

PRIMARY COLORS = red, blue, yellow
SECONDARY COLORS = orange, green, purple (Secondary colors come from mixing two of the primary colors together)

HUE = another name for color. A color in its purest form.

TINT = A color that has white added to it for lightening
SHADE = A color that has black added to it for darkening
TONE = A color that has gray added to it for neutralizing

SATURATION = The amount of color added to white, black, or gray. More color = more saturation. Less color = less saturation (desaturate)

COMPLEMENTARY COLOR SCHEME: Two colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel
ANALOGOUS COLOR SCHEME: Using colors that are next to each other on the color wheel
TRIAD COLOR SCHEME: Using three colors that are equally spaced on the color wheel. (Picture a triangle in the center, and its points will give you a triad scheme)
