Now, I will say that one answer that was given since the last clue was posted was on the right track. I can't say which one, but thankfully, this narrows the choices a bit. I was starting to feel a little self-conscious that I'm just not as cool and quirky as y'all think I am.

(By the way - some of you are guessing correct things, but they're just not THE "secret.")

OMG!

ZAZ GOT IT!

Way back in 1989 (was everyone here born by then? *snicker*) I went through the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California and studied Farsi. Farsi is a dialect of Persian, and is spoken in Iran.

I can't believe I got that right!!!!!! WOW!!! I used to work for the loss prevention (security) department of a major department store. My boss spoke Farsi and I thought it was so cool. I've taken Spanish, French, Greek, Latin, Russian and American Sign, but I'm not proficient in ANY of them. I'm now trying to learn Haitian Kreyol. I LOVE different languages!

I still can't believe I got that. I can't believe that a conversation I had in 1988 led to me winning a cool prize at Scrap Girls in 2007. Btw, I was born in 1965.

Shucks, I thought of that one. Have a friend who learned Russian that way. I had a boss in college who was a movie star in Iran but left after Ayatollah Khomeini took power. We learned a bit about Iran while we worked.
