Inner Glows

I'm new to the whole digital thing and started by downloading PSE6 two weeks ago and have been fiddling around with it and have created a few LOs. I like that the inner glow style seems to get some of the ink effects that I want on the edges of mats, etc, but I cannot get the color to change. I go to the style settings and it lets me pick a new color, but then it never applies it to the object.

 

Can anyone help?

 

PS - I just ordered PSE 5 and should be getting it in a few days. I haven't read all of Ro's tips yet, but I read enough to see that she didn't think it was worth getting PSE 6.

Wish I could help - when I click on the little color picker box in style settings, it automatically changes to whatever color I click on. It sounds like you're doing the same thing I am, so I'm not sure why it's not working.

I don't have PSE 6 but is there an "Apply" button that you need to click on to make the color change?

I don't use PSE, so I am not entirely sure, but one thought I had was are you sure you have the layer selected that you want to add the inner glow to? You probably do, but every once in a while I will go to apply an effect and realized I didn't have the correct layer selected.

I have PSE 6.0 and it seems to work fine! here is what I did:

 

Select my image layer (make sure it isn't background/locked)

Select which inner glow, and click apply (it is white at this point)

Select Layer>Layer Style> Style settings then click in the small box to open the color picker

pick the color of my choice and click OK.

 

As soon as I pick a color, it applies it - if I don't hit OK, it defaults back.

 

I hope this helps! If it doesn't work, I wonder if it is a trial version thing??

I have PSE 6 too and mine works fine, just the same way as Christie. I doubt this is a restriction of a trial version, they normally work on a time limit.

 

Sorry don't have any other ideas. You could try looking on the Adobe forum to see if anyone else has the same problem.

 

I'm not entirely sure that you should disregard ver 6. I upgraded from PSE4 and love 6. I haven't used 5, but I'm not sure why you would want to start with a version below the current one. All my previous styles and actions work fine in 6. It would certainly be questionably to upgrade to 6 if you already had 5 as I believe there isn't that big a difference.
