Help With Those Curled Edge Papers

When I downloaded and transferred the files I misplaced or deleted the how to files. And this was a few months ago...these have been sitting in my file and I get frustrated everytime I go to use them... I cannot seem to get the texture and curled edges to all work together. I want to use a bought paper so the one instruction on paper templates that I do have is not working. Can anyone help...Thanks so much...Janice

I didn't know they came with instructions....hahaha....I think I finally figured out how to use them. I use DIP and I change the hue of the curled paper to a color similar of the paper I'm "curling".....then I select the paper itslef...then use my transparency brush to erase the parts that are beyond the curl. That's what I do....hope figure it out.

OK...so i figured it out and I am not sure if this is the way one is "suppose" to do it or not.

 

Just in case anyone else want to do it my way I will post this...

 

I put my paper over the template and I use control G if there are any areas to crop...I think that is for clipping mask...then I go into the pull down menu and press overlay and it works....however the paper comes out quite a bit lighter so I play around with the colors or have even made a second copy to darken it up.

I use PSE 5 and here's what works best for me:

 

Layer the papers with the curl in middle and the background paper on the bottom. Make sure the curl goes slightly off the page at both ends (otherwise this won't work). Then click the curl layer in the layers palette and make it active. Then use your magic wand to click to the left or right of the curl (on the side you want to keep). Then click on the paper layer in the layers palette that you'll be deleting a piece of. Go to the select menu and then choose inverse and then press the delete key.

 

Then add your shadow. You shouldn't have the faded color problem with this method that you have the way you're doing it.

I think she has the paper templates rather than the Curled Edges, Rose Ann.

 

Janice, sorry I didn't see this thread before! It sounds like you're doing it just right. You may want to scroll thru the blending modes to see if any of the other ones work better, i.e. doesn't fade out as much.

 

Another way, which is a bit more time-intensive is to do this. Put your paper above the template as you've described above. Ctrl + Click on the thumbnail of the paper template layer. This will give you marching ants around the paper template. Click on your patterned paper layer to make it active. Go to Select > Inverse which will change the marching ants to select the opposite parts of the paper. Then hit delete. Your patterned paper will then be shaped the same as the paper template. You will then want use either the Eraser Tool or a Layer Mask to erase the areas on your patterned paper that are covering the curled edges of the paper template. As I said, more time intensive, but it will preserve the original color of the patterned paper you've chosen.
