Help With Tools

I purchased some very cool SS tools recently but I am not sure if I am using them correctly, Please help, TIA.

So I have the Papertear and the burned paper functions. The burned paper doesn't make the edge look burned it just colors the entire layer the color I click on. With Papertear am I supposed to us the eraser tool to get the torn edge??? I also got sanded paper and it works the way I expected I click on the layer in the palette then select the edge I want and it is there. I hope all this makes sense.

It helps to know what program you are using.

I know when the styles seem to cover the whole thing, going to layer>layer styles> scale effects helps me. Just reducing the percentage can make it look more realistic on any style. I use Photshop CS2, not sure how it works if you're using another program.

Which paper tear are you using?

That is the paper tear action. I think it works totally different in Photoshop, so I can't really help you with it. When I was figuring mine out, I found it helpful to print the instructions that came with it and follow along as I worked. The instructions should have been included in your download.

I just bought the paper tear action. You have to install the brush, style and the action into different folders (I have pse 5 so it might be different).

You select the area you want torn with the lasso, make sure that layer is on the top of your layers

Then select your brush tool, with the tear brush showing

then double click the action

a bunch of pop ups come up and then it's all done

There is some instructions in the folder, took me a few tries to "get" it. You also have to apply the layer style to the white layer.

I'm sure I just made things worse! Sorry!

Hi Shannon,

As Christina mentioned above the action for PSE comes with 3 parts, the action file, the brush file and a style set. The brush has to be selected in order for it to work, and the order of how to get it to work and the exact setting you should use are in the directions that come with it. If you can't find the directions or need help with something specific let me know and I can walk you through it.

This one has a few extra steps because we are really customizing what you can do in Photoshop. :)
