Does anyone know how to cut out images in PhotoImpact8? For example, cutting a photo in the shape of a heart.
I know there aren't too many PI8 users, but maybe there's someone out there...
Thank you for your help!

I don't know PI at all, but here's how I would do that in PS, and maybe you can do it the same way in PI8:
Do a Layer>Duplicate Layer on your photo. Delete the original, locked photo layer.
In another layer, draw your heart (or other shape) using the Custom Shapes tool (located with the rectangle/circle/line tools). Position it where you want the photo to remain.
Then, select the shape (get the marching ants) and select your photo layer. Then, do a Select>Inverse, and delete. Then delete the layer with the shape you drew, and what remains is your photo all cut out.
HTH!

Cindy-
Here is how it works in PI XL, should be the same for 8.
Click on your path drawing tool.
On the top under "Mode" click the drop-down arrow and select "Selection"
Click the "Shape" button and choose the custom shape you wish to use for the cut out.
Click and drag over your image to make the shape where you want it.
Click on the "Standard Selection Tool" and drag your new cut out shape where you want it!
Hope this helps

Cindy,
I'm a product designer here at Scrap Girls and I use Photo Impact to create 85% of my work. I started out learning how to use PhotoImpact by taking the Beginners Workshop, a FREE series of tutorials that teaches you PI and it's fun and self paced. I highly recommend it. If you take this course you will learn so much! You will be amazed at what Photo Impact can do! You can find out more and sign up here if you like PhotoImpact Beginners Workshop

Cheryl, thank you so much for that link. I used PI many years ago (version 5 and 6) but haven't touched it for a while, well since version 8, and wanted to re-install it as I did so many great patterns and metals web graphics and thought they would be perfect for scrapbook designs.

I'm going to have to check out these tutorials. I love Impact as there are some quick and easier to use frames and filters. However that being said, I get all tangled up in trying to do a LO in it. I prefer PSCS, so I've been using it at times for altered pictures and then copying them over to PS to do the actual LO. Somehow I get tangled up in the layers in Impact and get lost and frustrated.
I love learning new stuff! Thanks for sharing!
