And you know, I'm a little miffed that I don't have any of the symptoms of the hyperthyroidism -- unexplained weight loss for instance... :D

I love that sense of humor through this! Hope you get some relatively easy fix (maybe meds to get you back in line?). But keep on laughing no matter what!

I'm with Kim - I need the accountability! I've steadily gained weight since I started working in the job I have now - and I even teach about nutrition & health!! LOL!! I have got to loose, like 1 whole person's weight!! Not looking forward to that b/c it takes soooooo blasted long. I want results NOW!!

But I know slow & steady wins the race. I have an elliptical like Terese & I love working out on it - the fat seems to melt off my body once I continually work out!! (I lost a whole person's weight before.) So I'm gonna check in with y'all as much as I can!

Hey girls! It is soooooo quiet here! Were you all busy this weekend? For all you newbies, I just work out M-F and take weekends off, although we go ice skating on Saturdays. But it is MONDAY and if you weren't able to get started last week, then lets do it today! Get that workout out of the way early...I get up at 6:10 AM and get going around 6:30. It really is the only time of the day where I can get anything done with no interruptions. And I like getting it out of the way...

My workout includes 50 minutes walking on the treadmill at 3.6 mph and my level set at 8. It is a hill setting so I am going up and down in height during the entire 50 minutes. I finish off with some crunches and some free weights for my upper body. It all takes about an hour and 10 minutes.

Tell me what you are doing! And remember if you don't have that kind of time, you can split it up and do some now and some later.

C'mon and check in and let me know how you are doing!

Theresa

I'm still trying to figure out how to work in a work out! Today it is in the 50's so a walk with the dog would be possible. It is usually below freezing here so I should take advantage of the good weather! Let's see if I can fit it in between school, piano lessons, fixing dinner, and swim practice....

If I don't report back in a timely manner, somebody has permission to PM me and kick my tail (becuase PM's pop up automatically and I have to actually come to this thread to get chastised!!)

Don't think I've ever seen chastisement on this thread-- just lots of encouragement. :D
I go to the gym at 5:30 am. The easiest way for me to work it in. I'm home before the kids head off to school. I made it the step and strength or what ever they changed the name of my class to this morning. Lots of new faces in there. Hope they last through February. Was sad to hear our teacher is cutting down to 2 days a week. Don't know that I'm up to Al's kick boxing class quite yet. I used to love it, but I'm still not quite back up to speed, and you can't slack off in his class.

I'm glad to see that you take the weekends off from exercising Theresa. I was feeling guilty because I hadn't checked in over the weekend because I hadn't done any exercise other than my PT. Woohoo. Now I don't need to lay that guilt on myself. I did 25 minutes on the stationary bike today!

Weighing myself on Jan. 1st, I hadn't put on any lbs. over the holidays. Well, I guess they were hiding somewhere around me waiting to pounce because when I got on the scale today I was 2 1/2 lbs. more! And I haven't been eating anything naughty! Grrr. I'll have to workout a little harder this week.

Oh, I know nobody here would chastise me. I would be heaping the coals on myself--so if I don't show up around here I'm either really busy or hiding in disgrace! :hit-head-with-hammer: I did manage to do my grocery shopping after school in 'walk fast' mode. I hope I wasn't too rude to the meanderers! Now I'm going to get in my sweatpants and when I take the kids to swim practice I'll visit the exercise room for some treadmill or eliptical time. I'm feeling a little more motivated!

I started up again today after being off for most of December. I did 32 minutes on the elliptical, for 1.96 miles and 300 calories!
There's a fitness center at the office, so that's where I have a membership.

Hi girls,

Looks like you all are getting this year off to a great start, nice job! Today I went out and played tag with the kids for about an hour, so that was some good sprints. I have been writing everything down that I eat too, that always helps me.

My challenge time has been late at night when I am still awake after midnight, I get the bored munchies. I am trying to get my work schedule under control better, so that I am going to bed before 11:00, that will solve that problem real quick.

Anyway, keep it up!!!

Sorry I have not had the chance to check in, no monitor and borrowing my computer, I don't get to post on every thread like I like to.

My plan is going well. I joined the DiscoveryHealth National Body Challenge, which gave me a 2 month pass to the gym. I have been rising bright and early three days a week, and heading over there.

Diet wise, I am not on a diet, I am on a healthy eating plan. No junk, and I am careful about what goes in my mouth that is not healthy. That is not to say that once in a while I might have something bad, but the key is once in a while, and not everyday.

I have already dropped 3 pounds by doing this.

Great News, Julie! The latest facts and findings say that weight loss comes MAINLY from a lower intake of daily calories rather than exercise alone. So if your goal includes losing weight, you will want to eat less. I also read about a great 6 week program in Health magazine that is supposed to help you lose up to 15 pounds. It looks very interesting. I don't have th magazine here at my treadmill but I'll tell you all the basics in the next post. Midnight munchies, Trish? They say the best thing for that is a 1/2 cup of nuts or a small bowl of cereal. Something with alot of protein is best because it will solve your cravings and help you sleep! (I know some of us could really use that!)

OK, I'm walking away. I plan to work up a sweat taking down the Christmas Tree today too...well, I hope. Somehow I still don't have it in me to take it down. It is such a daunting task.

Keep it up ladies!!

I have dropped my calorie count down to 1300, which should yield a healthy pound a week.

What month was the article in? I could probably look it up on there website.

I think taking the tree down is major exercise.

Checking in--I made myself go outside this afternoon and take a walk with Jackson, my 10-month-old collie. We walked back on our acreage, which is sopping wet after melting 12 inches of snow and TONS of rain since last night. I guess we were out about 20 minutes through rough grassy terrain with some hills. I'd have stayed out longer but it was just so wet! I didn't want to walk on the road with him because we'd have been sprayed by passing vehicles. I'm glad I walked. That is a good way to do it if it isn't too cold. No sign of our usual January cold snap in the near future either. If the ground freezes but it doesn't throw us into a major cold spell, walking there will be perfect!

As for eating, I've managed to eat healthy foods and amounts--with only two little Hershey's kisses to meet my chocolate desire. My killer time is late afternoon--after school and before dinner. I should just eat dinner then! I do try the handful of salted almonds. Just have to eat them slowly....

Later!

I did 25 minutes on the bikethis afternoon. Had a thorough PT appt this morning and was kind of ouchy when I left but I had planned to do some shopping for recumbent cycles. I was really hurting after the third store. I think I'm going to do some investigation online. :) Anybody use one?

I haven't been checking must lately but I can say I've still been at it. Been hitting the eliptical everyday for at least 5000 steps, I keep pretty fast paced (if my quads can keep up) at 1000 steps in about 8 to 10 minutes. I try to do a 30 minute workout in the morning and one in the evening. Plus I'm home all day, so if I find myself inbetween things, I'll just hop on for about 500 steps, just takes a few minutes. Yesterday I finally made it upstairs and worked out my arms and abs on the bowflex. My chest is feeling it today. Which is a good thing...knows I was doing it right I guess.
I haven't climbed on the scale yet though, figured I'd give it a couple more days in case the news isn't good since I've been a bit down about my figure lately. I just keep telling myself to keep up my workouts and I'll make it to where I want to be.
Keep at it girls!

Checking In...I did 15 minute exercises last night and got up early this morning to exercise briefly before I took the little one to school. I have been on a "Healthy Lifestyle Change" for about 2 weeks now and I put some slacks on this morning that I could not get into over the holidays last year and what do you know, I am fitting into them. Gonna keep trucking! Made my day today!

That is always fun, isn't is Melissa? I love getting into clothes that I haven't been able to wear for a little while. I weight EXACTLY the same as I did before the holidays. :D My Dr.'s scale and the WW scale don't say the same amount, but they were both exactly the same as the last time I was there. Better than gaining. Made it through another workout at the gym. I feel like a slug- everything is so much harder than it should be. Light weights feel heavy. Ugh. I just give myself lots of credit for getting up and going.

We used to walk M-F in our circular road, but decided to get a gym membership this winter rather than walk in the dark (6 AM, usually).
At the gym, I have used the recumbent bike, but find it takes too much time to work the heart rate up for me. The elliptical however, works it up quickly... i just don't have the endurance needed for that kind of workout. I used both treadmill and bike yesterday, but only 5 min on bike.

Have stuck to the treadmill for 30 min, working my heart from 108 every other day and 118 on the days in between. It works for me, any way. Not sure I would use an recumbent bike for long enough to consider purchasing one. I do like the gym membership... great idea and drier than our street this winter, LOL.

You gals are an inspiration! I haven't been doing much exercise these past few months except a little walking around here and there or swimming when I go to the beach. I enjoy working out in the fresh air but some days I miss the gym because I can get in and go hard and be done. Keep up the hard work ladies!

Okay, this is my first check in since the holidays. I gained two pounds over the holidays. Over all, I feel that I did pretty good (besides the weight gain, but it was minor)...I didn't snack on the cookies as much as I did last year. I can count on one hand how many cookies I had; last year I lost count. Also, if I did go back for a second helping (which was rare) I stuck to a second helping...not three or four 'second' helpings.

Anyway, I've been good at working out. I've been going to our gym to walk. I have yet to add my weights back into the workout, which means that I haven't done any weights since mid-December. My goal is to work out with my weights on Friday. And I've bumped up the calories I'm burning on my treadmill to 225. I wind up walking 35 minutes on a 4% incline at 3.4 mph. I'd love to be able to keep up with Teresa, but I'm just not there yet! You are an inspiration girl!

Today, I'm skipping the gym in order to clean the bathroom. I'm considering that my workout since I plan to not only do the wipe down, but hand wash the floors, and scrub the shower and tub. Oh, the fun that awaits!

Y'all have a wonderful day and keep up the great work!

It's Wednesday which is dance night for me. Two hours of intense tap and jazz class, so that is my aerobic workout for the day. Will probably do some weights when I get home, if I can still muster up some energy. I'm on a roll.

You are all doing GREAT! WOW! I'm so proud of you all! I exercised yesterday but my internet was down so I couldn't update you all...:(

But I'm here this morning. I don't remember the last time I got on the scale, but I feel OK. I'm just getting over some kind of intestinal bug yet again, so it has been tough going.

I really REALLY want to get myself a bowflex. I know I talked about it forever last year, but this year, it is my goal to talk DH into it. I saw a cheaper version at Brookstone for only $199. Seems like for that price it would be made very cheaply, but the reviews on it are very good and it is not like I'm training for the olympics or anything. I may go look at it again today.

I promised you that article from Health magazine. I'll try to find it online and send you the link today.

Did you sign up for the Hungry-girl.com newsletter yet? Do that! They have lots of valuable tips on choosing new healthy foods...and lots of tips and recipes for eating lighter. I highly recommend it.

OK, keep moving girls! Getting off your duff is the best thing you can do to get started. Let's hear from you!

Walked again at the gym... 50 min, almost 3 miles and 250+ calories burned.

Did not do the weights because my wrist is aching today... not sure yet what it is... possibly carpal?
Possibly overuse yesterday? Need to see if it clears up from low use before I spend $ finding out it was just a fluke.

Anyway, feeling like I can do 5 pounds in the next month with diligence and eating the right foods,
meaning NOT leftover Christmas junk!

Found your group today and thought I would join you ladies. No promises on daily posts - my life is crazy with my DH back to traveling again. I will be glad when our next duty station get here.

I am starting out a little slow at it all this year. I am trying to make permanent changes not just "diet" ones. So I am taking a day at a time and thinking about my choices when I make them. Doesn't sound like much but I have had a pretty good week overall. Today not so much, but tomorrow is another day. Also I need the long term benefit and if it takes me awhile to get it off but it stays off - then that is okay with me.

I would love to lose 30 pounds but honestly I am taking it 10 at a time. I have 10 Germany pounds to lose first. Then I will start working on the Maryland pounds (and that was before kids).

We have a mom's workout group on base that meets MWF. We trade off watching each others kids at the gym so we can workout. We have a great group of ladies and wonderful support.

I love to run but got out of it mid last year when all the family starting coming over to Germany to visit. Then my DH left for Afghanistan and I was just functioning with my 2 DS.

But yesterday I ran a 5k and plan on it again tomorrow. My body responded easier than I thought it would. Very motivating. I think the running will come back pretty quick. Now I just need to get better about cutting calories, but one day at a time.

Talk to you again soon. Keep up the good work ladies - we are all worth it and can do it!!!

Good news--the scale said I was down 2 lbs.-- a combination of better eating, exercising and getting past that time of the month!

Bad new--my head feels like it is 'stuffed with fluff' and it is raining outside (it's January--it should be snow!) I'm staying in and drinking fluids. Two DD's are down with throat infections AGAIN. Let's see how we all feel tomorrow, which is swim practice at the Y night (while another swim mom & I go to the exercise room).

Checking in for today - another 5k on the treadmill down. Actually did more than that almost .5 mile more. Accidently pushed the wrong button and had to start over. But at least I did it. That makes 11 for the week - not bad for my first week back in a while.

Had a friend come up to me and say you are still running and then when I told her about just up and doing a 5k she said I must be a runner. So I am not only inspired to run but to do a page about it. The true scrapbooker in me - LOL.

I know I won't get anything in until Monday - so until then ladies - have a good weekend.
