LOL...that's good Theresa!!!

I love the challenge too! I already do six days a week at the gym, but I will add and extra 5 minutes to each workout which will give me an extra 1/2 hour of cardio for the week!

I did pretty good this morning...I did some different stuff with my sister. Push ups on the exercise ball, we jumped rope and did some work with a resistance band...then I did 30 minutes on the elliptical.

Fell out of sight for while with my DS bday and then mine, and my DH traveling again!!!

Did 2 miles on Monday - treadmills all taken for most of my time at the gym ( small gym on base).

Did 3.5 today.

Running my first race on Friday - 5k. I am skipping MOPS to do the run. I have pawned my 2yo off on a friend that is also going to take my pic as I cross the finish line. I mean if I am going to do it, I might as well scrap it too.

Today at the 1.5 mile mark I was gettting a little tired, and then at 2 hit my second wind and off I went. I felt great when I got done.

I like the challenge, but right now I am going to work on my 5k time so I can increase my distance in the same amount of time - burn more calories. Which I need to work on big time. I will try those Special K bars, going to the store tomorrow. Hope I can find them over here.

Hey girls! What is going on? Thursday is upon us. My girls are off tomorrow as today is the last day of the semester. So it is kind of like Friday for me. I still plan to awake early and get that workout it.

No big changes for me going on this week and with this workout. I'm still doing all I can to keep up the work. I'm going to do some extra walking later today as I carry some items up two flights of stairs later today. I figure I have to make 10 trips. That will be alot of walking. I'll try to keep my heart rate up the whole time. Should add about 15 minutes on to my exercise today.

You go with that 5K Bethany!! Good luck to you! I know you can do it...

Cindy, you are just a bundle of inspiration! Keep it up, girl!

How about everyone else? How is it going?

I feel lazy today. I think I will take today off and eat yogurt all day!

Nah...I worked out for about 10 minutes this morning and went up and down two flights of stairs to get my energy pumped up!

I went to the gym but did not do a heavy workout... only about 18 min on the treadmill and 5 on eliptical. Mostly worked my jaws, chatting with daughters, friends, while I waited on DH to finish his major workout.
"tomorrow is another day!" (Scarlett rules!)

Have lost 2 pounds. Maybe lose another next week? HMMM?

I'm up for the challenge. I think I've been averaging about 4 days so 5 it is! DH is a good motivation because he's been real regular at hitting the treadmill at 10 am Monday thru Friday. I've missed out on two mornings a week because of physical therapy appts. but I'm done with those now so I have no excuse!

I did 30 minutes on the bike and 15 on the treadmill today! Woohoo. That's a whole 1/4 mile at 1 mph. Teehee. I have to think about every step I take on the treadmill to try and get my foot to do what it is supposed to do in a consistent manner. Fifteen minutes is a looonnnggg time to think about every step. :)

Did my first 5k in 35 minutes. Actually would have been faster but one of the other Navy guys ran it with me and we talked the entire run. And my husband was there before and after the race to take pictures for me. Then Friday night at craft night I actually finished the layout for it. i was so productive on Friday it scares me - LOL.

I am actually looking forward to my next race - I will start watching the base news more closely for it.

Tomorrow I am back to mamma hawcs and doing a 5k on the treadmill. But at least it is something. And my scale dropped 1.5 pounds. Now if I can keep it off.

I am going to post the layout in another hour after the kids are in bed. I will try and remember the link for my next post here.

Alright!! I got a few takers...that is great!

It is MONDAY!!! YAY! Time for 5 days of workout bliss. I'm kind of taking it easy this morning as I winded early. Hmmmmm. I hope that doesn't mean I'm coming down with anything. Abbie has been struggling with some kind of chest cold, so I'll pray that it isn't what I'm feeling.

I'm doing pretty darn well with my water. I bought some flavored mixes that you just put in a bottle of water...who knew? I'm always the last to find these things. It sure makes drinking that midday water much easier. I particularly like the Green Tea ones by Lipton.

Soooooooo, back to a big week of watching everything that goes into my mouth. I looked at that fitday.com and tried to use it but my girls kept interrupting me while I was trying to look for "shredded cheddar cheese"....the FULL FAT kind, I might add....I don't skimp on any of that stuff. The hardest part about that site is just finding everything that you ate. How does it work for you, girls who are using it?

OK, then, I'm going to try to turn up the volume here just a notch....thanks for the video recommendations, too, Cindy! Meant to mention that. I think that I am going to try that hip hop abs. I saw that guy on Ellen the other day and it looks like something I could do.

Whew...the weekend's over! Ever notice how much harder it is to stick to your plan on the weekend?? I love my family time, but I do better with a schedule and that's hard to keep with on the weekend...

Well, with that said...I felt really energized at the gym this morning and did my 40 minutes on the elliptical w/ no problem.

Theresa...With using FitDay, I actually find it easier to input foods that I tend to eat the most in the "Add Custom Food" part...FitDay will store these items and you can pull them up another day (so you don't have to enter them every day, ugh!). So, if I can't find it in the list easily, I just go ahead and enter it...I'm using this only for the calorie count, so I just enter Calories, Fat, Carbs and Protein and skip all the other stuff.

Here's a link to mine if you want to peek...may help...

I totally agree with you Cindy about the weekends presenting challenges. I had every intention of doing some form of exercise over the weekend but it didin't happen. Oh well. I will do 5 days this week! I did do 30 minutes on the bike Friday and had intended to get back and do some treadmill, but didn't. I did 16 minutes on the treadmill today and then 20 on the bike. My legs are tired! This is good. :)

Hope everybody has a productive and exercise filled week!

Hmmm, so you don't think a little house work counts as excercise? Ido. :D I went to gym this morning, class was cancelled due to weather. There was like 1/4" of snow on the grass and it wasn't even sticking to the roads. So I do the elliptical and walked on the track and did some ab work and some weights.

Those workout instructors will use ANY excuse to cancel a class! I'll tell you what...sorry that happened to you April.

For sure house cleaning counts. Everytime I do I am achy, because I use different muscles for house cleaning, I'm sure. But anything you can do to get that heartrate up counts. I'm particularly fond of parking in the spots in the parking lot where no one else will park...it is a great workout walking to the store and hauling your groceries back to your car. But I don't suggest doing this at night...;)

Ok, Tuesday is moving forward. I have a few things to wrap up at home here as far as organizing goes...then I need to dig into my 2007 files and start organizing them for taxes. Ugh...hate this time of year...

Drink your water!!

I did 25 minutes on the bike but only about 6 minutes on the treadmill yesterday. Foot was ouchy. Did 30 minutes on the bike and 18 minutes on the treadmill today. My stationary bike is an older, not-very-expensive model and I've been having problems with the tensioning system. I was pedaling along today and I heard a snap kind of sound and it suddenly got a whole lot more difficult to pedal. I could make it even harder but I couldn't get it to ease up. DH took it apart AGAIN and found that the fly wheel had seemed to have gotten unbalanced. He got it put back together and it seems to work fine for now. I just wish is would break altogether so I could go out and buy a new/used recumbent bike. Oh well. :)

I got a late start today because Jenna was up much of the night with a fever...so I slept in and I am on the treadmill now. I almost scratched the workout, but then I though....GOTTA GET UP OFF MY BUTT....so here I am...and I'm glad I did. You could be miserable, tired, crampy, whatever, but then you get in 50 minutes of brisk walking and HELLO!! I'm up and ready to go! So I'm going to make Jenna some lunch, do some filing, and work on my new collection...

Ahhhhhh! Nothing like a good workout! What did YOU do today??

Glad you got your bike fixed, Pat! You should go out and shop for a new one...you never know. I finally FINALLY got DH to bite on the bowflex. So now I just have to hook him!! Good luck!!

Haven't been around life is busy - Monday ran for 3.5 miles.

Had to get oil on Wednesday to heat the house and then got sick. Might walk tomorrow depending on how I feel.

Leave for Rome on Monday until Thursday. So my next real workout will be next Friday. Italian food is so amazing I just hope I maintain my weight. But walking all over Rome should help.

I will check in when I get a real workout in again.

Keep it up ladies.

I forgot to post, I worked out for 1.5 hours on Monday and then yesterday...well I went overboard with workouts, 5 hour car rides, and a really bad back again. Needless to say I could not walk at all yesterday without help of my cane and my back pain pills.

so I have to take a couple days off from exercising too much.

But, I am noticing a difference in my clothes and my hubby told me that my blue jeans looked really loose in my be hind a couple days ago... :)

Okay, it's been weeks since I've checked in, but I have been working out! Last week DH and I went to Ireland for vacation. DH had been working in the middle east, so on his way home he stopped in Ireland and I flew over to meet him. While he was in the middle east I had bumped up my workouts. I was walking at a 5 to 5.5% incline at 3.4 to 3.5. That's the best I've done on the treadmill since I was in high school. Yeah me! And it paid off too! The first two days of our trip was a bit hard...we walked everywhere! Once I got use to the walking, it was great...plus I felt good that I could handle all of our walking.

Before I left, I did try to use the weights at our gym. Pretty much, since November I have not been a regular with my weights. Though I have weights at home, I find that I don't use them that much. I do better if I can fit it all in when I am at the gym. Our new gym has a great selection of machines, but only two really worked for me. I found two that did, one for my back and the other for my chest muscles. For everything else I am going to stick to my handweights. Luckily, this gym also has hand weights. So my current goal is to do weights once a week. If I can stick to that, then I may up it to twice a week.

It'll probably be next before I go back to the gym. I caught a cold the last day of our trip. Last night we got back so I have been resting ever since. I now understand why people say avoid flying on a plane with you've got a cold. :)

Hi girls! Sorry I hadn't been around but Wednesday night I pulled some kind of muscle in my neck or back and found out around 3am that I couldn't sit up! It was awful. The pain was excrutiating. I spend most of the day in bed with Jenna, who was home sick from school. Friday, it wasn't much better but Steve gave me a vallum Thursday night so I could at least get some sleep. By Saturday I was able to get around. I did some light cleaning by late afternoon...and yesterday, I felt about 80%. This morning, still some stiffness. I'm walking today but I won't do any weights or crunches until it is completely healed. What a blow! Get into your 40s and all this crazy stuff starts to happen to you, I tell ya.

OK, so it is Monday and time to start a new week of fitness! Hey, it is also a new month too! Well, yipee!! Anyone want to update their goals?

Hey Girls! It is Tuesday! What happened to you yesterday? I'm a little looser today but tired. Not much sleep. That is OK though. I have a busy day (week) ahead. Wednesday is Ash Wednesday (how did that happen so fast?) Thursday is Steve and Stephanie's birthday. I still have to go out and get my stepdaughter something for her birthday. I never know what to get. I'm thinking of getting her some toliet paper. Everytime those kids come over, they ask me for toilet paper..LOL! I'll go to Macy's and see what I can find today.

So, another day, another 3.5 miles. What are you going to do today?

Sorry I didn't get checked in here yesterday but I did exercise. I'm having such a hard time keeping up with all that is going on on the message board that I forget to check in here. I did 25 minutes on the bike and 15 minutes on the treadmill. Today I did 20 minutes on the bike and 20 on the treadmill. Woohoo!

Theresa, I have a question about heart rate. Is it true that you are not burning fat if you are above your target rate? The reason I ask is because my bike is being poopy and I can't make the tension any easier. I think I'm staying in my target range (120-130) but it does seem a bit harder than I'd like.

Gotta go eat lucnh. Blood sugar is dropping.

Way to go Pat for keeping up with your workouts! I have yet to work out this week. The cold I picked up last week is really giving me a hard time. Today I am feeling better! It'll probably be this weekend or the beginning of next week before I head to the gym again. However, I am eating good. I am getting back into my routine after vacation. As of today, I'm back to my fruit smoothies in the morning and salads at lunch. I've actually missed my salads and am glad to have them for lunch again! :)

Hey girls! I was here yesterday but forgot to post...sorry!

Pat, when I started working out in the old days I was told that working above was a muscle burner and not a fat burner because your body needs the oxygen to work, and when it runs out, it takes it out of the muscles. Recently, however, I heard that the only way to get a good fat buring workout is to work at or above your target rate. The percentage used to be 25%-65%, I believe, but this article said 45%-84% was a better range. I'm sure in the end that there are many factors to this being true. One for would be the condition of your heart. I would think that if you are cardiovascularly fit that it would be OK. But of course, a doctor could tell you more than I could.

As long as you can talk while you are working out, then you should be OK. If you can't vocalize anything, you are working too hard. That has always been my rule of thumb. Hope that helps!

OK, today is DH's birthday and my SD's birthday so we will be eating Pad Thai tonight (as requested by SD). I guess I need to get a cake too...hmmmmmm....ice cream? Yes, I do believe...

I'm not sure if I will be here in the AM or not. Jenna is getting her teeth pulled at 7am and Steve and I are still conversing over who will take her...so maybe I'll see you and maybe I won't...but you STILL NEED TO MOVE.

I need to hear from my silent ones..where are you? Fill me in on your workouts!

Theresa

Thanks Theresa. I do make sure I can talk when I'm working out. I can pretty much feel my limits. Despite my weight, my heart and arteries must be in pretty good shape. I've had all the heart tests (except catheterization) in the last few years and everything seems to be good. I won't worry so much about being over my working rate so much then as long as I can keep talking.

Did 25 minutes on the bike yesterday, no treadmill. I knew I was going out to do some shopping so decided to save my foot. Did 30 minutes on the bike and 15 minutes on the treadmill today - and then went out shopping again. A bit too much I'm afraid. :)

You go Pat!! Glad to see you are sticking with it!

I seem to have lost the rest of my crew. Hopefully they will all check in soon.

Steve took Jenna this morning so I'm getting my workout in. I have made drastic changes in my diet in the past 2 weeks. One has been limiting myself to 1 or 2 cups of coffee. Otherwise it is all hot tea and water. I have also cut my meals down to almost half...eating salad for lunch and startng with salad for dinner. I've been a little hungry before bed but I can usually cut that down with a cup of sleeptime tea at night. Another big change? I bought those Vita Top Muffins that Hungry Girl talks about. I eat one of those mid morning or mid afternoon. They are amazingly satisfying and pretty darn good too! They can be kind of dry, so I definatley recommend it while having a cup of tea or coffee. I ordered two boxes, and you can freeze them until you are ready to have one. Either defrost it before hand or toss it in the microwave for 30sec. Then it comes out nice and warm, too!

So, I have not gotten on the scale but I can tell you that my clothes are looser...maybe I'm making the change I needed to see the results I wanted!

I'd love to hear from the rest of you! C'mon and say hi!

Theresa

Hello everyone! I am still struggling to get more exercise in, but I am losing weight by watching my diet. I am down 7.4 since beginning of Dec, so I will take it!

You ladies are doing awesome with your workouts. Would one of you like to come be my coach?! I swear I need my old soccer coach to get me motivated and moving, he was great at that. My exercise goal is to walk today for a bit and then tomorrow I am going on a Mom's day out, so we will be walking a few miles around the waterfront. :)

Did 25 minutes on the bike today. No treadmill since I'm going to be out shopping today (again) and going to hockey. That makes 5 workouts this week!

WTG Trishy! I held my weight over the holidays but I always seem to put some on in Jan. I have been bingeing a bit lately and I don't know why. I went up 3 lbs. but and back down one.

Sounds like the cutting back at meals is working for you T. Since I've really gotten a handle on my snacking (basically don't), I guess I'm going to have to try what you are doing.

I've been working out. It doesn't feel that great, but I do it anyways. :D Went to the zoo yesterday while it was sunny for a while and got some walking in until it started to rain again.

Boy, if this is not the site to meet so many different aspects of one’s life … I don’t know what would! SG tickles the creative juices, encourages the faith through prayer, challenges the mind with book club, and today I discover a health aspect too? You ladies are amazing!

I NEED to get back on track working myself toward a more healthy side. I have let myself slide into some health issues (I could just kick myself!) The encouragement/accountability I see here is great … do you have room for one more?

I see I’m about a month and a half behind you all, but there’s no better time to start than TODAY because tomorrow NEVER COMES!

I am a bit confused – where is it you all are posting your goals?

I have stress induced asthma and came home from work Monday with pneumonia and strep. It hit me hard as I have been home all week (has been years since something laid me up this long!) Today I’m feeling better (I got dressed and went grocery shopping!) I am finding that I can do a little and then need to rest and can do a little more. I don’t think I’ll tackle walking 30 minutes, but maybe if I get the vacuuming done I’ll feel like I accomplished something worthwhile physically and housework-wise.

I USED to walk 30 to 45 minutes a day x 6 days and free weights 2 days a week. That is what I really need to get back committed to - that, and making healthier eating choices.

If I feel better tomorrow I’ll try to get some walking in … otherwise I will shoot for a start date of Monday morning before work. Will someone hold me accountable to that??
