Help With Acdsee

I am just starting (trying to) with ACDSee 10. I have several questions. First a basic question. I will be using an EHD for my digi scrapping. Should I install ACDSee on that hard drive, or does it matter?

Next, should I organize my personal photos first, or start with my scrap files? I thought the photos should go first, and I tried to get them catalogued. However, most of my photos are stored through my Canon digital camera software, on Zoombrowser. When I brought the pictures to ACDSee, there are little red circles with a diagonal red line through them, like the international symbol for "No", on all the photos. Is this normal, or should I do/have done something different?

I would appreciate any help/insight that can be given. I am fairly computer savvy, but this is all pretty much greek to me! I really want to get started doing some layouts, but I want to make sure I am getting organized correctly first. I'll probably make a pest of myself asking questions, but everyone is so awesome here!

Thanks!!

Hi there Patty! I use ACDSee 9 Photo Manager. I don't have the editor because I use Photoshop for my actual scrapping. I have done quite a bit of organizing through ACDsee though so I will see if I can help. :)

You should install ACDSee on your main drive with all of your other program files. It will run faster and work better in the default location. You can access your external hard drive from inside the program.

As far as organizing goes. I started with my scrap supplies so that I could easily search backgrounds, elements, alphas and word art. Then once I got all of those categories set up, I went back and added more specific categories for colors, and sub categories like ribbons, frames etc. I have only done minimal organizing of my photos because I download them into folders labeled for the month and year. That way I can find stuff fairly quickly.

I can't imagine what the issue is with your photos though. I use a Canon camera and as soon as I got ACDSee I have used that to download my photos directly. You could check and make sure that the files are still in JPG format. ACDSee should be able to read them in that format and that should be how they come out of your camera.

Will you be using the editor for scrapping or just the photo manager for your files? Sorry I don't know anything about the editor, but photo manager questions I can probably help with. :)
