Problems With Vista, Pse 5 And Templates?

I have a question regarding using templates with Vista. I have downloaded several templates, but I am having problems using a few of them. These are my troubles: 1) After I download and unzip, I try to drag the template to my Template folder on my computer. Several of the templates somehow cause my Windows Explorer to give a message that it encountered a problem and is restarting...many, many times this happens; and 2) If have been successful dragging the templates to my folder, I have a problem when I try to open it to use in PSE 5.0. It shuts down Photoshop. Not all the templates, but too many for me to think I don't have a problem somewhere.

Have you heard of any other people having this problem? I am almost positive it has something to do with Vista (Vista has been a common culprit lately).

Thanks so much for any help you might be able to offer.

I have encountered several problems with Vista on my new computer. I kept getting error messages of corrupt files, and then I couldn't copy, move or burn files. UGH! From what I have figured out, Vista and the security program (in my case Live 1 Care) are not totally compatible. I have to turn off my antivirus when I download, unzip, and do anything when it comes to copying or moving files. When I scrap, I ususally disconnect from the internet, so My computer is not at risk. I also run a virus scan regularly.

In the case of the files that are getting the error message, you may need to download again, since they may be tagged as corrupt files. Make sure you back everything up. If you cannot delete the file (my computer would not delete the files), disk check will delete them when you run it (which is how I lost many files before I knew what was wrong!)

I'm no computer genius, and I don't know if this is your problem, but it's what I went through, and how I have worked around it. Wish you the best!

Feel free to PM me if you need any more info, or have any other questions.

I have found that sometimes when copying, moving files from one folder to another, my Windows Explorer needs to be closed and reopened before the changes will actually take place. Especially when renaming folders. Oh, yes, and this is Vista. I have found also that rather than drag and drop, if I will just highlight the file I need to move or copy, and then go up to the menu bar under edit and choose either Copy this folder, or Move this folder, I get the desired result faster.

Maybe it's just a glitch in Vista, but it does seem to stumble when I try to do too many drag and drops. I'm sure we'll be getting an update sometime soon and resolve this. In the meantime, I'm just glad there are work arounds.

I was having issues with PSE 5 and Vista as well...then someone suggested going to the Adobe site and seeing if there was a patch and there is. Since I downloaded it, things seem to be running better for me, so you might try it as well.

Good luck!

Thanks for the replies so far. I did indeed go to the Adobe website a few weeks ago because PSE was moving incredibly sloooooowwwww. The patch helped that problem tremendously. Still can't resolve the Windows Explorer restart issue, though.

I've read that lots of people have had problems with Vista. I have to say I have had practically none. I know how frustrating it can be with the darn machinery/software doesn't behave properly. I hope you can find a solution.
