Dad is out of surgery and the doctors feel confident that the cancer was contained within the prostate, and they were able to successfully remove the prostate. He didn't need a blood transfusion and no nerves needed to be cut to remove the prostate successfully, despite it being very, very enlarged. Dad will be out of recovery in about an hour, and mom is waiting not-so-patiently in his room for him. My dad historically has really bad reactions to anesthesia, getting violently ill, and the anesthesiologist did something different for dad in hopes that he'll avoid the nausea he usually experiences, so we're hoping as he wakes up he'll not have to deal with the nausea at all. He'll stay overnight at the hospital, and barring any complications, he'll be able go home tomorrow to continue his recovery there. They'll do another PSA test in about 6 weeks. If the result is "zero" that means the cancer was contained in the prostate and eliminated with the removal of the prostate. That is obviously what we're hoping for.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for your prayers!! It was incredibly heart-warming and empowering to see so much support this morning. THANK YOU!

He is scheduled to be in surgery tomorrow morning at 7:30 to have his prostate removed. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer last month and has chosen Radical Perineal Prostatectomy as his treatment route. It's pretty scary. He's still a young man (58) and I just worry so much for he and my mom. I know that prostate cancer is one of the most successfully treated types of cancer, and we're grateful his was detected early. But surgery is surgery, and this kind is particularly intense because it's so important the cancer be removed completely.
So if you powerful ScrapGirls can add my Daddy to your prayers, I'd sure appreciate it. The power of prayer is awesome, and clearly present in this group of fantastic women!
I'll update as soon as I know anything and can get to the computer tomorrow.
THANK YOU!
