This is hard to even put into words. Today, the brother of a friend of my daughter's shot himself and died. Dusty was a high school senior and, until last summer, a star swimming athelete who had scholarships waiting for him. He was very popular and a very nice kid. Last July 4th, he and his mother and sister were riding horses on their farm and decided to swim in one of their ponds. Dusty had an accident and broke his neck. Kristi, my daughter's friend and also 13, saved his life by pulling him out of the water while his mother got on her horse and galloped to a road to get help.
Dusty was paralyzed from the neck down. It was very traumatic for all of them, and for everyone who knew them, but they were doing their best with what life had dealt them. Dusty raised money for the rehab center here and was very positive. He had sensation in his limbs and had gained some limited movement in his arms. He was working hard at physical therapy and his dream was to walk to get his diploma this spring.
Then, today, he killed himself. I am in agony thinking about what his family must be going through - and the emotional pain he must have been feeling to take his own life. Tomorrow (Monday) the pain will cover our small town and the students in our high school and middle school. I'm hoping they will have counselors available.
Please pray for this family. If I am in such agony even imagining what they are going through - then I can't even comprehend the depth of their pain. I don't know what else to do for them.
Thank you for your prayers and for listening ...
edited Monday: I just wanted to say thank you so much for your prayers and support. The pain is so strong in our little community you can almost touch it. I can't tell you how much it has helped to read your comments and feel your prayers. Thank you -

Having gone through a death in my family in the past year which involved police investigative work, I ask that you Scrap Girls pray over that part of the situation also, that it will be quickly brought to an end for the family's sake and that God will raise tender and compassionate people to communicate with the family.
