Hello everybody -

This is hard to even put into words. Today, the brother of a friend of my daughter's shot himself and died. Dusty was a high school senior and, until last summer, a star swimming athelete who had scholarships waiting for him. He was very popular and a very nice kid. Last July 4th, he and his mother and sister were riding horses on their farm and decided to swim in one of their ponds. Dusty had an accident and broke his neck. Kristi, my daughter's friend and also 13, saved his life by pulling him out of the water while his mother got on her horse and galloped to a road to get help.

Dusty was paralyzed from the neck down. It was very traumatic for all of them, and for everyone who knew them, but they were doing their best with what life had dealt them. Dusty raised money for the rehab center here and was very positive. He had sensation in his limbs and had gained some limited movement in his arms. He was working hard at physical therapy and his dream was to walk to get his diploma this spring.

Then, today, he killed himself. I am in agony thinking about what his family must be going through - and the emotional pain he must have been feeling to take his own life. Tomorrow (Monday) the pain will cover our small town and the students in our high school and middle school. I'm hoping they will have counselors available.

Please pray for this family. If I am in such agony even imagining what they are going through - then I can't even comprehend the depth of their pain. I don't know what else to do for them.

Thank you for your prayers and for listening ...

edited Monday: I just wanted to say thank you so much for your prayers and support. The pain is so strong in our little community you can almost touch it. I can't tell you how much it has helped to read your comments and feel your prayers. Thank you -

So sad for the boy. I can't imagine going through what he/they had... for him to live and make progress then this. Such a terrible thing.

I pray for the comfort of his family and friends.

Sending my thoughts to all who knew Dusty. It is hard to imagine the torment a person feels before taking their own life. I know though of the torment of the family left behind. I wish you strength to help your daughter and her friends through this.
Take care

Oh, Cary! What an awful story. Many prayers for Dusty and his family. But his struggles are over and he is in a much better place. We will pray for him...

Cary, hugs and prayers to you as you, your family and your community embrace what has happened. May God give each of you comfort, peace and encouragement. May the Lord show you practical ways to minister to this family. Rest assured that they will need your encouragement for a long time so don't feel alarmed if you you are not sure what you can do right now.

Having gone through a death in my family in the past year which involved police investigative work, I ask that you Scrap Girls pray over that part of the situation also, that it will be quickly brought to an end for the family's sake and that God will raise tender and compassionate people to communicate with the family.

Cary, I'm so sorry you have to go through this - praying that God will bring you through. Will also pray for your daughter and for Dusty's family. Praying God's comfort and His strength when there is no other way to be strong.
